University of Illinois System invites applications for a Senior Research Specialist in Chemical Engineering, based in Chicago, IL. The role focuses on diagnostic studies of fuel cells and electrolyzers using AI-guided synthesis, high-throughput methods, and synchrotron X-ray techniques.

The candidate will lead synthesis and characterization of materials and electrodes, with emphasis on licensing advanced AI tools and high-capacity analysis. Strong collaboration across disciplines is essential.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline from a leading international research university.
• Approximately ten (10) years of extensive research experience in nanomaterials and electrochemical engineering.
• Strong publication record in electrocatalysis and related fields.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to work in collaborative, multi-institutional environments.

Responsibilities

• Catalyst Synthesis: Develop novel catalysts guided by AI, machine learning.
• Catalyst Performance Evaluation: Use electrochemical techniques to assess catalyst performance.
• Device-Level Assessment: Integrate catalysts into low-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers for testing.
• Hardware & Tool Development: Create electrochemical cells and MEA testing hardware for in situ characterization.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects.
