Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE & I) in Merrillville, IN is seeking a Senior Electrical Substation Engineer to lead design tasks on projects ranging 12kV-500kV. The role mirrors ET hours and may offer remote options in select states for the right candidate.

The ideal candidate holds an ABET-accredited degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering with 8+ years of Substation experience; EIT with PE path preferred. Travel may be required up to 10-20% depending on projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 8+ years of experience as a Substation Engineer; EIT with intent to pursue PE license (PE preferred).

Responsibilities

• Create and modify protection and control drawings (one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics).
• Create and modify physical drawings (yard layouts, BOM lists, grounding drawings).
• Perform calculations (battery sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, ground grid).
• Review work to ensure code compliance and customer requirements.

Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE & I) is looking for a Senior Electrical Substation Engineer to join our Substation Engineering team!

Who is Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE & I)?

WE & I, an affiliate of Welty Enterprises, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering and construction oversight on transmission, substation and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV.

Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, WE & I currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.

As a Senior Electrical Substation Engineer, you will represent our client(s) specific to substation design working on projects ranging from 12kV-500kV.

This role is preferred to be based out of our Merrillville, IN office mirroring ET hours,however, we will consider remote (in select states, below) for the right candidate.

As a Senior Electrical Substation Engineer, You May:

• Create and modify protection and control design drawings including, but not limited to one-lines, three-lines, AC schematics, DC schematics, communication drawings, wiring diagrams, etc.
• Create and modify physical drawings including plan and section views, yard layouts, bill of material lists, grounding drawings, etc.
• Perform calculations such as battery sizing, AC loading, voltage drop, conduit fill, lightning protection, lighting design, and ground grid studies.
• Perform reviews of Substation Engineers an Designers work to ensure they meet code, customer requirements, and good engineering practices.
• Coordinate with other disciplines such as project management and civil engineering teams.
• Interface with client’s engineering groups and project management team to provide regular and timely updates.
• Review manufacturer drawings.
• Incorporate red line drawings from the field to as-builts.
• Update design leads or project managers on project status as needed.
• Perform site visits when necessary.

What We Require:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering at an ABET accredited university
• 8+ years of experience as a Substation EngineerEIT Certification with the intention to pursue PE license (PE preferred)

Travel:

• 10-20% travel may be required (project specific).
