Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking an Electrical Inspector to oversee electrical, communication, and instrumentation installations on construction projects. Qualifications

• Familiar with applicable electrical codes (NEC/CSA)

• Knowledge of flame and gas detection systems in an industrial setting
• Understanding of A/C power systems: single and three phase
• Experience interpreting hazardous locations per NEC/CSA and company specs
• Knowledge of LOTO procedures and electrical installation for industrial applications

Responsibilities

• Ensure installation complies with drawings, plans, specs and contract documents
• Maintain an inspector's logbook with detailed records
• Validate contractor completes tasks per the Inspection and Test Plan
• Verify materials meet company and manufacturer requirements

Job description

Role Description:

Electrical Inspectors typically report to a Chief Inspector. The role of the Electrical Inspector is to ensure that the electrical, communication, and instrumentation installation on construction projects is performed in accordance with the Company’s drawings, plans, specifications, and the contract documents. The Electrical Inspector must have a thorough working knowledge of the electrical, communication, and instrumentation systems for the constructed assets. This includes having a basic working knowledge of data acquisition systems and pneumatic and electrical control systems.

Responsibilities

• Be familiar with the approved for construction drawings and the Company specifications.
• Understand the contract document as it relates to their duties on the project.
• Maintain a detailed Inspector’s logbook.
• Validate Contractor has completed task listed on the Inspection and Test Plan.
• Verify that all materials used on the installation are compliant with Company and manufacturers requirements.
• Ensure MOC processes are followed for any design changes or material substitutions.
• Keep the supervisor aware of any issues/concerns during construction.
• Support pre-commissioning activities such as loop check and motor bump and runs etc.
• Ensure Contractor maintains the safe approach limits for arc blast and arc flash.

Basic Qualifications:

• The position must meet the basic qualifications of a Craft Inspector.
• Inspector should be familiar with applicable codes (see Table 11.3: Major Electrical Codes by Jurisdiction below).
• Knowledge of flame and gas detection systems and their operation in an industrial environment.
• Be familiar with the A/C power systems including single phase and three phase systems and proper wiring methods.
• Ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation drawing, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams etc.
• Be familiar with interpretation of hazardous locations as defined by the N.E.C. and/or CSA and Company specifications and be knowledgeable of approved wiring methods for these areas.
• Understand interfacing of pneumatic and electrical control systems (i.e. actuators, pressure, and PIT transmitters).
• Good understanding of Company and/or Contractor LOTO procedures.
• Knowledge of electrical installation for industrial applications.
• Common electrical regulatory or code requirements based on location. (i.e., Canada or US) including but not limited to: CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code / US ANSI/NFPA 70 CSA Z462 Electrical Safety Code CSA 460 Lock Out Standard

Pre-Assignment Requirements:

• Drivers License/Drivers Abstract First Aid/CPR GHS (Global Harmonized Systems) Licensed Electrician.
• Must have or have been a Licensed Electrician US ONLY OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or OSHA equivalent within last 5 years US ONLY
• PCST (Pipeline Construction Safety Training), CSTS (Construction Safety Training System), OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 within last 5 years CANADA ONLY Trade Certificate (CANADA ONLY).
• Current or expired Trade Certificate or License (US ONLY)
