Nexteer Automotive in Saginaw, MI is seeking a Senior Electrical Hardware Core / Architecture Engineer to lead architecture, design, and validation for high-volume EPS control modules from concept to production.

You will mentor engineers, partner with Systems, Software, EMC, and Manufacturing teams, and own complex technical investigations to ensure robust electrical solutions under all operating conditions.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of analog and digital electronic design, validation, and debugging in automotive or safety-critical systems.
  • Hands-on lab experience with standard electronic test equipment.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Mentor Xpedition or equivalent).
  • Experience with circuit simulation/analysis tools (PSpice, Multisim).
  • Strong understanding of margins, robustness, and power electronics behavior.
  • Ability to independently own and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical teams (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical hardware architecture and design for high-volume EPS applications.
  • Develop new schematics by creating standardized core circuit blocks.
  • Review PCB layouts to ensure signal integrity, power integrity, EMI, and manufacturability.
  • Develop and peer-review circuit-level test plans; assess results for robustness.
  • Support End-of-Line functional test specifications and root-cause investigations.
  • Interface with Systems, Software, Motor Controls, Sensors, Systems, and EMC teams.
  • Lead schematic reviews and architecture discussions; support DFMEA activities.
  • Develop tools or scripts to accelerate hardware debug.

About the Role:

This position serves as a senior technical authority for electrical hardware architecture and circuit design, supporting high-volume EPS control modules from concept through production. The Electrical Hardware Core / Architecture Engineer independently leads complex technical investigations, defines robust electrical architectures, and ensures designs meet functional, performance, diagnostic, and reliability requirements across all operating conditions.

The role interfaces closely with Systems, Software, Motor Controls, EMC, and Manufacturing teams and plays a critical part in technical decision-making, root cause resolution, and mentoring of engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Electrical Hardware Core / Architecture Engineer, you will be responsible to:

Electrical Architecture & Design

  • Serve as the electrical hardware senior engineer ensuring proposed architectures, schematics, and component selections align with customer, system, and internal requirements.
  • Develop new electrical schematics for high‑volume EPS applications by creating standardized core circuit blocks (e.g., battery protection and filtering, motor position sensing, bulk capacitance, and gate drive architectures).
  • Create and maintain circuit analysis and design documentation tailored to specific use cases and customer requirements.
  • Review PCB layouts and provide detailed feedback to ensure signal integrity, power integrity, EMI robustness, and manufacturability.

Validation, Test, and Root Cause

  • Develop, execute, and peer‑review detailed circuit‑level test plans; assess results for completeness, accuracy, and robustness.
  • Support development and transfer of End‑of‑Line (EOL) functional test specifications.
  • Perform ECU failure analysis and lead root‑cause investigations across hardware, software, EMC, and system interactions.
  • Verify electrical designs across normal, transient, and fault conditions to ensure robust functional and diagnostic behavior.

Cross‑Functional Technical Leadership

  • Lead schematic reviews and architecture discussions.
  • Interface with Software, Motor Controls, Sensors, Systems, and EMC teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support DFMEA activities by identifying risks, defining mitigations, and verifying effectiveness.
  • Support electrical hardware technology roadmap initiatives.
  • Develop scripts, software tools, or analytical methods to accelerate hardware debug, v

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in analog and digital electronic design, validation, and debug, ideally within automotive or other safety‑critical systems.
  • Strong hands‑on laboratory experience using standard electronic test equipment.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Mentor Xpedition or equivalent).
  • Experience with circuit simulation and analysis tools (e.g., PSpice, Multisim).
  • Strong understanding of circuit margins, robustness, and power electronics behavior.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Experience with motor drive or power electronics systems preferred.
  • Experience developing scripts or software tools to support hardware validation and debug preferred.
  • Prior experience mentoring engineers or serving as a technical lead preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
