Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. seeks experienced electrical engineers to design and analyze high-speed digital and analog electronics for space systems.

You will work on laser communications, space electronics and sensors, partnering with cross-functional teams to meet stringent requirements. You will contribute to design verification, test methodology, and documentation while ensuring space qualification standards and secure handling of ITAR-related responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Requires Master’s in EE with 5+ years’ experience or Bachelor’s in EE with 8+ years’ experience
  • Experience in design, analysis, integration and test of custom electronics
  • Familiarity with IPC standards and space qualification requirements
  • Ability to derive and meet program requirements with reliability focus
  • Experience producing PCB layouts and understanding PCB manufacturing/assembly

Responsibilities

  • Design custom high speed digital electronics using ADCs, DACs, FPGAs and processors
  • Analyze analog circuits including low-noise conditioning and power amplifiers
  • Collaborate with product development and R&D to meet technical needs

The selected candidates will join a dynamic team working to put Great Systems on Orbit with capabilities to perform leading edge tasks in laser communications, space electronics and sensors.

Position Responsibilities
  • Design custom high speed digital electronics including the use of ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, processors, and communications drivers.
  • Design, and conduct analysis of, analog circuits including low-noise signal conditioning and power amplifiers.
  • Provide expertise to both product development and R&D efforts.
  • Collaborate with peers, leads, and managers to develop, review, and refine designs and analyses to meet program technical needs within defined time and budget constraints.
  • Work within a broad-disciplined program team providing expertise in support of electronics manufacturing and test.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering with 5 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience can be considered instead of a master’s degree.
  • Experience in design, analysis, integration, and test of custom electronics.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and simulation tools (such as Altium, SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, HyperLynx, and MS Office).
  • Ability to conduct circuit analysis and simulation to optimize performance and reliability.
Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies
  • Understanding of space qualification standards and requirements.
  • Experience designing custom electronics for space products.
  • Experience designing to a defined requirements.
  • Experience with analysis necessary for high reliability space electronics hardware (Electrical stress analysis, worst case circuit analysis, and reliability analysis).
  • Experience producing PCB layouts.
  • Experience and understanding of PCB manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Understanding of relevant IPC standards needed for electrical design and fabrication.
  • Experience developing and conducting testing of complex electronic sub-assemblies along with design of special test equipment (STE).
  • Experience deriving sub-assembly requirements from higher-level, flowed down, system requirements and defining test methodologies.
  • Experience developing design & verification documentation (Interface Control Document/Drawings (ICD), Design Description Document (DDD), Test Plan, Test Procedures, Test Reports, etc.).
  • Written and verbal communication skills necessary to present designs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to complete assigned work within a defined timeline and budget.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
Physical Demands

Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment (Constant). Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent).

Clearance Level: No Clearance.

Salary Range

The salary range for this role is: $100,500 - $153,250.

ITAR Requirement

This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or a person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction. Please understand that any job offer that requires approval of an export license will be conditional on AeroVironment’s determination that it will be able to obtain an export license in a time frame consistent with AeroVironment’s business requirements. Some positions will require current U.S. Citizenship due to contract requirements.
