Axon seeks a founding Senior Electrical Engineer in Boston to own electrical design across schematic capture, PCB layout, bring‑up, and validation for highly integrated hardware. You will collaborate with RF, Mechanical, Firmware, and Manufacturing to solve signal integrity, power, EMI/EMC, and thermal challenges.

As a founding member, you will guide hardware through EVT/DVT/PVT, certification, and mass production, while establishing standards and leading reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of end-to-end hardware design experience.
• Experience with high-density mixed-signal PCs and power management.
• Deep knowledge of schematic design, PCB stack-up, grounding, high-speed routing.
• Experience with DDR, PCIe, USB, Ethernet, MIPI or similar interfaces.
• Travel up to 50% domestically.

Your Impact

We are seeking a founding Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in schematic and circuit board design to own the electrical design, development, and validation of complex, highly integrated hardware for mission‑critical connected devices.

As a founding member of our hardware team, you will have significant ownership across the full hardware lifecycle-from system architecture and component selection through schematic capture, PCB layout, bring‑up, validation, certification, and mass production.

You will design high‑density, mixed‑signal electronics integrating application processors, memory, power management, battery systems, wireless radios, and high‑speed interfaces. You'll work closely with RF, Mechanical, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams to solve complex challenges across signal integrity, power integrity, board architecture, thermal constraints, EMI/EMC, and form factor.

What You'll Do

• Schematic & Circuit Design: Own detailed mixed‑signal schematic design across application processors, microcontrollers, memory, power management, battery charging, RF modules, sensors, and high‑speed digital interfaces.
• PCB Design & Layout: Drive complex, high‑density PCB designs from architecture through layout and release, including layer stack‑up, component placement, routing strategy, grounding, and design reviews.
• Signal & Power Integrity: Design for robust signal and power integrity across high‑speed digital interfaces, sensitive analog circuitry, power rails, and mixed‑signal systems.
• Component & Power Architecture: Lead component selection, power‑tree design, battery/charging architecture, design calculations, derating, and electrical tradeoff analysis.
• Mechanical Integration: Partner closely with Mechanical and Industrial Design to optimize board shape, component placement, connectors, antennas, thermal performance, and overall form factor.
• Bring‑Up & Debugging: Lead board bring‑up, characterization, validation, and root‑cause analysis using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and related laboratory equipment.
• Production Readiness: Own BOMs, design documentation, design reviews, verification, manufacturing test requirements, and electrical readiness through EVT/DVT/PVT, certification, and mass production.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and design review support to electrical engineers and external design partners, establishing scalable electrical engineering standards and best practices.

What You Bring

• 7+ years of electrical and circuit board design experience and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Deep hands‑on experience taking complex electronics from architecture → schematic capture → PCB layout → bring‑up → validation → production.
• Strong experience designing high‑density, mixed‑signal PCBs incorporating application processors or MCUs, high‑speed memory, power delivery, battery/charging circuitry, and wired or wireless interfaces.
• Advanced knowledge of schematic design, PCB stack‑up, grounding, component placement, high‑speed routing, signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC.
• Experience designing high‑speed interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, USB, Ethernet, MIPI, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of power architecture, including DC/DC converters, LDOs, battery‑powered systems, charging circuitry, power sequencing, and low‑power design.
• Hands‑on experience with Cadence OrCAD and Allegro or comparable professional schematic and PCB design tools.
• Experience designing rigid, flex, or rigid‑flex PCBs within demanding mechanical, thermal, and form‑factor constraints.
• Strong board bring‑up and debugging experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and related test equipment.
• Proven experience taking hardware through EVT, DVT, PVT, certification, manufacturing ramp, and mass production.
• Experience designing electronics to meet U.S. and international hardware, wireless, EMC, and safety requirements.
• Experience partnering with CMs, ODMs, JDMs, PCB fabricators, and geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Flexibility to travel domestically up to 50% of the time, as needed, to support the team.

Work Location

This position offers a hybrid schedule, requiring team members to work onsite at one of our regional hubs, located in Boston, MA or Scottsdale, AZ - Tuesday through Friday.

Pay Transparency

Axon offers a comprehensive total compensation package, which includes base salary, a generous annual bonus, and company equity.

The starting base annual pay for this role is between $112,800.00 and $196,535.00 excluding annual bonuses and equity, depending on your geographic market. The actual base salary will vary based on several factors, including level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location‑often a combination of these elements.
