Axon is seeking a founding Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in radio hardware and chip-down design to own the architecture, integration, development, and validation of multi-radio systems for mission-critical connected hardware.

You will lead bring-up, RF validation, and mass production, collaborating with RF, Systems, Mechanical, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams. A 7+ year background in RF electronics and Cadence tools is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in electrical or RF design with radio hardware.
• Experience with chip-down radio design or board-level wireless integration.
• Strong knowledge of RF coexistence, interference and EMI/ EMC.

Your Impact

We are seeking a founding Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in radio hardware and chip-down design to own the architecture, integration, development, and validation of sophisticated multi-radio systems for mission-critical connected hardware.

As a founding member of our hardware team, you will help define how multiple wireless technologies coexist within highly integrated, battery-powered devices. You will own critical radio hardware decisions from chipset and component selection through schematic design, PCB implementation, bring-up, RF validation, certification, and mass production.

You will solve complex challenges across Land Mobile Radio (LMR), LTE/cellular, broadband wireless, RF coexistence, interference, isolation, EMI/EMC, power, and antenna integration, working closely with RF, Systems, Mechanical, Firmware, and Manufacturing teams.

What You'll Do

• Radio & Chip-Down Design: Own board-level implementation and integration of radio chipsets and associated circuitry across LMR, LTE/cellular, and broadband wireless technologies.
• Radio Architecture: Translate system and product requirements into radio hardware architectures, evaluating chipsets, transceivers, front-end components, interfaces, power requirements, and system-level tradeoffs.
• Schematic & PCB Implementation: Develop and review schematics and PCB implementations for RF transceivers, modems, front-end components, power circuitry, control interfaces, and supporting digital electronics.
• RF Integration & Coexistence: Design and validate multi-radio systems, addressing coexistence, desense, interference, isolation, harmonics, spurious emissions, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC.
• LMR & Cellular Integration: Solve hardware challenges associated with integrating regulated LMR frequencies alongside cellular and other wireless technologies within compact devices.
• Antenna & Mechanical Integration: Partner with RF, Antenna, Mechanical, and Industrial Design teams on antenna placement, RF routing, shielding, grounding, board layout, and enclosure-related RF performance.
• Bring-Up & Debugging: Lead radio hardware bring-up, characterization, and root-cause analysis using spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, power meters, and related RF test equipment.
• Certification & Production: Drive radio hardware through verification, regulatory and carrier certification, EVT/DVT/PVT, manufacturing ramp, and mass production.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction on radio hardware architecture and design while working with chipset vendors, external design partners, ODMs/JDMs, and internal engineering teams.

What You Bring

• 7+ years of electrical, radio hardware, or RF electronics design experience and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience with chip-down radio design or board-level integration of wireless transceivers/modems, rather than solely integrating pre-certified modules.
• Strong experience with one or more relevant radio technologies, including LMR, LTE/cellular, broadband wireless, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, or similar wireless systems.
• Experience designing and debugging RF-related circuitry, including transceivers, RF front ends, filtering, matching, switching, amplification, clocks, power delivery, and digital control interfaces.
• Strong understanding of RF coexistence, interference, desense, isolation, harmonics, spurious emissions, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC in multi-radio products.
• Experience integrating multiple radios into compact, highly integrated, battery-powered hardware.
• Hands-on experience with schematic and PCB design using Cadence OrCAD and Allegro or comparable professional design tools.
• Strong hardware bring-up and debugging experience using spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, and related RF/electrical test equipment.
• Experience partnering with antenna, mechanical, firmware, and systems engineers to optimize end-to-end radio performance.
• Proven experience taking radio hardware from concept and architecture through validation, certification, manufacturing ramp, and mass production.
• Experience with applicable U.S. and international wireless, EMC, regulatory, carrier, or safety certification requirements.
• Experience working directly with silicon/chipset vendors, ODMs, JDMs, CMs, and external engineering partners.
• Flexibility to travel domestically up to 50% of the time, as needed, to support the team.

Work Location

This position offers a hybrid schedule, requiring team members to work onsite at one of our regional hubs, located in New York City, Boston, or Scottsdale, Arizona - Tuesday through Friday.

Pay Transparency

Axon offers a comprehensive total compensation package, which includes base salary, a generous annual bonus, and company equity.

The starting base annual pay for this role is between $112,800.00 - $196,535.00 excluding annual bonuses and equity, depending on your geographic market. The actual base salary will vary based on several factors, including level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location-often a combination of these elements.
