Job summary

Mindr in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for a hybrid role combining remote work with in-office collaboration.

You will design electromechanical systems with embedded processors, develop interfaces (USB/UART/I2C/Bluetooth), and partner across teams to drive innovative products that help keep drivers safe.

Qualifications

  • BS in electrical or computer engineering or equivalent four-year degree.
  • 4+ years design experience with electrical systems in consumer, commercial, or industrial products.
  • Proficient in schematic design, PCB layout, PCBA, and manufacturing files; Altium preferred.
  • Experience with electronics manufacturing: THT, SMT, DFM.
  • Knowledge of USB, UART, I2C, and Bluetooth integration.
  • Experience with digital/analog hardware; fuel cells a plus.
  • Experience with PLM software; Arena preferred.
  • Experience in production environments; collaborate with production staff.
  • Experience with project management and product development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of automotive control systems and IoT devices is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel 5–10% to suppliers or customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Design interfacing electromechanical systems with embedded processors and sensors.
  • Design communication buses with I2C, USB and UART, and ARM processors.
  • Develop platforms for Bluetooth, WiFi, IoT and embedded systems functions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and non-engineering teams in an agile environment.
  • Create custom components and integrate with off-the-shelf parts.
  • Estimate and track program/project budgets.
  • Perform patent reviews and contribute to the patent portfolio.
  • Collaborate with test lab to create test plans and validation protocols.
  • Design custom test and automation fixtures.
  • Develop and track product configuration analyses.
  • Identify and replace end-of-life components.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to meet functionality goals.
  • Prepare technical presentations and design documentation.
  • Investigate root causes of device failures and propose fixes.
  • Present findings and recommendations to leadership.
  • All other duties as assigned.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer, hybrid * in Des Moines, IA.
*This role is hybrid and based in Des Moines, IA; combining remote work with in-office collaboration. Leaders set schedules to align in-office days with onsite projects, collaboration needs with mandatory in-office days dependent on work.

What You’ll Be Doing:

The Senior Electrical Engineer plays an important role in developing, maintaining, and executing product designs that keep impaired drivers off the road and enable drivers to get responsibly back behind the wheel. As part of a high-performing technical team, your work will be a critical part of innovative new product development and ensuring our current product supports our business growth.

1. Design and implement automotive interfacing electromechanical systems with embedded processors, analog and digital sensors and controls, including PCB design and layout.

2. Design communication buses with I2C, USB and UART, embedded and ARM processors.

3. Design communication platforms for cell, Bluetooth, WiFi, IoT and embedded systems functions.

4. Collaborate with Engineering and non-engineering team members to establish design requirements in an agile environment.

5. Use creativity and engineering principles to design custom components and integrate with off-the-shelf components.

6. Estimating and tracking program/project budgets.

7. Performs patent reviews/evaluations and contributes to the patent portfolio.

8. Collaborate with the test lab team to create test plans and establish ongoing and validation test protocols.

9. Design custom test and automation fixtures.

10. Develop and track product configuration analysis.

11. Identify and implement replacement solutions for end of life components.

12. Collaborate with suppliers to achieve desired functionality from purchased components

13. Prepare technical presentations, reports and other design documentation.

14. Utilize engineering experience, technical investigation skills, and experimental testing to determine the root cause of device failures.

15. Present findings and provide recommendations on project and product direction to business leaders.

16. All other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring to the Table :

1. BS in electrical or computer engineering, or similar four (4) year technical degree.

2. Minimum of four (4) years' design experience with electrical systems of consumer, commercial, or industrial products.

3. Proficient in schematic design, PCB layout and routing, PCBA assembly design integration, and generating design and manufacturing files. Altium experience is preferred.

4. Experience with design for electronics manufacturing including THT, SMT and DFM (design for manufacturing).

5. Knowledge of USB, UART, I2C, and Bluetooth to a level necessary to successfully integrate components.

6. Experience with digital and analog hardware such as fuel cells.

7. Experience with PLM software; Arena is a plus.

8. Experience working in production environments and able to collaborate with production staff to develop manufacturing solutions.

9. Experience with project management and the product development cycle.

10. Knowledge of basic automotive control systems and IoT enabled devices, preferred.

11. Travel to suppliers or customer sites, about 5-10% possible.
