Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Burnsville, Minnesota, onsite. You will design and maintain computer hardware components for avionics systems, review obsolescence, and provide guidance for PCB layout and testing.

Our Collins Communication, Navigation & Surveillance team is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and maintain computer hardware components for our award winning avionics systems.

This is an onsite position in Burnsville, Minnesota.

What You Will Do:
  • Review and maintain awareness of obsolete parts on assigned products. Provide appropriate resolution to obsolete parts.
  • Design and analyze digital and analog circuits using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.
  • Characterize digital and analog signals using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and related test equipment.
  • Design and analyze digital circuits including computer hardware components (e.g., processors, memory, interfaces), and their performance characteristics (e.g., throughput, processing architecture, timing, capacity).
  • Provide supervision and technical guidance for PCB layout.
  • Perform hands‑on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment.
  • Perform validation and verification activities to ensure products meet design specifications.
  • Contribute to engineering estimates for limited to moderate scope of electrical design problems.
  • Review LRU defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, and techniques that drive continuous improvements in the development processes.
  • Use your excellent written and verbal communication for technical documentation and collaboration.
What You Will Learn:
  • Deeper knowledge in electrical hardware simulation, analysis, and design (digital, mixed signal, and power).
  • Collins development engineering processes and practices.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Must be U.S. Person - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and analyzing analog and digital circuits using schematic capture tools and performance simulation tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex hardware issues
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience withRTCA/DO-160, DO-254, and FCC/ETSI regulations, and standards for Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware.
  • Experience with environmental testing, including Temperature, Emissions, Susceptibility, and/or Lightning.
  • Strong foundation in data router design, engineering and wireless communication systems.
  • Expertise in digital radio circuit design, including micro-processors, FPGAs, memory, and AC and DC electronics power supplies.
  • In-depth knowledge of wireless communication protocols (e.g., 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.).
  • Strong familiarity with PCB layout, HDI, high‑speed design techniques, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation.
  • Hands‑on experience with lab equipment such as logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience with design and simulation tools like MATLAB, SPICE, or similar.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and firmware development is a plus
  • Experience in sustainment engineering, including failure analysis and obsolescence management.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
