Job summary

Apptronik is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Apollo humanoid robotics program in Austin, TX. You will drive design, process, and performance improvements across the full system, from PCBA to full-stack integration, partnering with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of electrical engineering experience with PCB/PCBA design.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and testing (DFM/DFT).

Responsibilities

  • Lead PCB/PCBA design and interface with manufacturing during release and builds.
  • Perform root cause analysis on failures and optimize system performance.
  • Develop design documentation for bring-up, field deployment, and compliance testing.

Job Summary

We're looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at Apptronik, focusing on our Apollo 2 humanoid robot platform. In this role, you'll be responsible for driving design, process, and performance improvements across the entire robotic system, from individual components to the full-stack assembly. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer with a passion for robotics and a proven track record of optimizing complex electrical systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • PCBA Design for Excellence
    • Provide feedback and develop processes for design for manufacturing and test (DFM, DFT) for PCBAs and wiring harnesses.
    • Work with supply chain to manage bills of materials (BOM), component sourcing, and component substitutions.
    • Work with vendors and manufacturing leading up to design release, at design release, and during initial builds.
    • Support electrical engineering team on new designs as needed.
  • Debug Specialist
    • Conduct root cause analysis on system failures, performance issues, and production inefficiencies to implement robust solutions.
    • Coordinate and implement root cause corrective actions.
    • Develop design documentation to support system bring-up and system field deployment.
    • Define and support compliance, EMI, EMC, safety, and reliability testing as needed.
  • Leader for Electrical Engineering Development Processes
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives for the Apollo humanoid robot, identifying and addressing opportunities for improvement in design, manufacturing, and field support.
    • Maintain processes for design release, product lifecycle management, manufacturing team support, engineering change orders.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers, to integrate improvements seamlessly.
    • Develop and implement best practices for electrical assembly, testing, and quality control.
    • Document all design changes and improvements thoroughly, ensuring clear communication and knowledge transfer.
    • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 4 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer
  • Experience with product lifecycle management and PLM systems such as Arena
  • Competent in CAD tools including Altium, or similar tools
  • Experience with developing and maintaining CAD design rules
  • Proven experience designing, prototyping, and debugging PCB/PCBAs as well as interfacing with manufacturing groups during release/build
  • Familiarity/experience with electronics lab tools and simulation tools (ex: LTSpice, PSpice)
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written); will be expected to develop detailed build assembly instructions and diagrams
  • Excellent problem-solving and hardware debugging skills
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing, including the use of lab equipment.
  • Travel up to 10% within US and internationally
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
  • Hearing and speech to communicate
