Job summary

The role emphasizes designing and coordinating electrical systems, producing bid-ready documents, procuring long-lead equipment, and mentoring junior staff across multiple concurrent projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related 4-year degree.
  • 8–11 years of work experience in electrical systems for building power.
  • 8–11 years of work experience in designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations, and coordinating fixture placement with trades.
  • 8–11 years of work experience in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment.
  • 8–11 years of work experience in AutoCAD, Revit or other related design programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in designing electrical systems for building power, including normal, emergency, and standby distribution for industrial facilities.
  • Document calculations for design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, and voltage drops.
  • Design lighting for food processing spaces and coordinate fixture placement with trades.
  • Design fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code.
  • Produce bid documents including layouts, one-lines, risers, schedules, details, and specifications.
  • Procure long lead electrical fixtures and power distribution equipment.
  • Manage electrical bid process for clients and assist with startup.
  • Project planning and feasibility studies.

About The Job

We are seeking experienced Electrical Engineers with strong technical capabilities to support and advance our building electrical engineering practice. The Building Electrical Group is responsible for all building electrical systems including lighting, fire protection and low voltage for food and beverage production facilities. The professional will have technical responsibility for scoping, performing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments. His/her specific responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Lead in designing electrical systems for building power, i.e. normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage for industrial facilities.
  • Take the lead in documenting all necessary calculations for the design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, raceway fills, etc.
  • Designing lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting level needs. Coordinating fixture placement/mounting with other trades.
  • Designing fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code.
  • Designing low voltage systems such as LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, cameras, etc.
  • Producing bid documents consisting of layout drawings, one-line, riser, schedules, details, and specifications.
  • Procuring long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCC’s, generators, variable speed drives, and UPS’s.
  • Manage electrical bid process for clients, observing construction, and assisting with startup.
  • Project planning and feasibility studies.
  • Take the lead in participating in and supporting department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance.
  • Researching electrical building/power materials and best practices
  • Assists with interviewing and hiring new team members
  • Handle complex issues and tasks with minimal supervision and advise subordinate team members on issues they encounter.
  • Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor
