Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.

SSOE is seeking a Mid-to-Senior level Electrical Engineer (Automotive & Industrial Facilities) to lead the planning, design, and execution of electrical systems for complex industrial and manufacturing facilities. This role will support automotive, battery, advanced manufacturing, food & beverage, consumer products, and other industrial facility projects from concept development through commissioning. The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader responsible for electrical power distribution, facility infrastructure, equipment integration, and multidisciplinary coordination. The engineer will collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and engineering teams to deliver innovative, safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality objectives.

Locations available include (but not limited to): Toledo, Lima + Columbus (OH), Troy, Midland + Portage (MI), Nashville (TN), Phoenix + Scottsdale (AZ), Hillsboro (OR), Atlanta (GA), Birmingham + Huntsville (AL), Austin, Dallas + Houston (TX) and many other location options throughout the US. Fully remote options may be available for those not within a commutable distance of an SSOE office.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and execution of electrical systems for automotive, manufacturing, battery, and industrial facility projects.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record and technical lead on projects of varying complexity and size.
  • Develop electrical power distribution systems from utility service through facility distribution networks.
  • Prepare and review:
    • One-line diagrams
    • Power plans
    • Equipment layouts
    • Cable schedules
    • Electrical room layouts
    • Lighting systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Load calculations
    • Short-circuit and coordination studies
  • Design medium- and low-voltage power systems supporting industrial processes and facility infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, controls, structural, civil, and architecture teams throughout project development.
  • Support facility expansion, modernization, and greenfield manufacturing projects.
  • Interface directly with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical recommendations.
  • Review vendor documentation and coordinate utility service requirements.
  • Support equipment procurement, construction activities, startup, and commissioning efforts.
  • Lead design reviews, quality reviews, and constructability assessments.
  • Develop project scopes, engineering estimates, schedules, and staffing plans.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while promoting technical excellence and quality standards.
  • Support business development efforts including proposals, client presentations, and project pursuits.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting industrial or manufacturing facilities for mid-level consideration. 10+ years experience for senior-level consideration.
  • Demonstrated experience with automotive, battery manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, consumer products, food & beverage, chemical, or other industrial facilities.
  • Strong understanding of facility electrical infrastructure including:
    • Medium-voltage distribution systems
    • Low-voltage power systems
    • Motor control centers (MCCs)
    • Switchgear and switchboards
    • Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
    • Backup power systems
    • Grounding and bonding systems
  • Experience performing and reviewing electrical studies including:
    • Load flow
    • Short-circuit
    • Arc flash
    • Protective device coordination
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IBC, and applicable industrial design standards.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Strong client-facing communication and project leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting major automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Experience with electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, battery cell production, battery module assembly, or related advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation, controls integration, and manufacturing systems.
  • Experience with utility coordination and facility power service planning.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy integration, energy storage systems, and facility electrification initiatives.
  • Proficiency with SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, Revit, AutoCAD, or other engineering software platforms.
  • Experience managing large capital projects exceeding $10M in construction value.
  • Previous experience leading engineering teams on large industrial facility programs.
