Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a design engineer to join our Government Services unit. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities to advance in Electrical Engineering on multi-disciplinary projects, including nuclear facilities and safety-rated systems.

You will produce calculations, site plans, diagrams, and procurement specs, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with NEC, UL508, and IES Lighting Handbook while leveraging tools like ETAP/SKM and

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required; dual citizenship with a non-U.S. country does not qualify.
  • ABET-accredited degree: BSEE or MSEE.
  • 7+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience; nuclear environment preferred.
  • Experience with low- to medium-voltage electrical distribution and instrumentation wiring; multi-system experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL508, electrical codes, and IES Lighting Handbook.
  • Ability to learn load flow/arc flash software such as ETAP and SKM Power Tools.
  • Ability to learn lighting analysis software such as Visual and AGI32.

Responsibilities

  • Support electrical design engineering on a multi-disciplined project team.
  • Produce engineering calculations, analyses, and reports.
  • Prepare design inputs for drawings: electrical site plans, power/lighting plans, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schedules.
  • Apply electrical engineering expertise to design and qualification of structures, systems, and components.
  • Produce procurement and construction specifications.
  • Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs.
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced engineers.

Job description

This position allows for a hybrid arrangement with a mix of work from home and in the office.This is a design engineering position that offers a variety of challenging opportunities in Electrical Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity for career advancement.

  • Support electrical design engineering efforts on multi-disciplined project design team
  • Responsible for production of engineering calculations/analyses and engineering reports
  • Prepare design inputs for drawing production including electrical site plans, power and lighting plans, one-line diagrams, assembly drawings, conduit and wire run schedules, wiring diagrams, elementary diagrams
  • Apply electrical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components
  • Produce procurement specifications and construction specifications
  • Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers
Qualifications

Essential Skills And Experience
  • Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
  • BSEE or MSEE degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 7+ years of progressive responsible experience in electrical engineering ideally in a nuclear environment
  • Experience with producing engineering designs for low to medium voltage electrical distribution systems and instrumentation wiring; experience with more than one type of system a plus
  • Experience with NEC, UL508, electrical codes, and IES Lighting Handbook
  • Proficiency or ability to learn load flow and/or arc flash analysis software such as ETAP and/or SKM Power Tools
  • Proficiency or ability to learn lighting analysis software such as Visual and AGI32
Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience
  • Professional Engineer License (PE)
  • DOE experience preferred; commercial or Navy
  • Field engineering and construction experience

Compensation Range

$100,019 - $152,807

Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) laboratories and sites. What does this mean?
