Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Colorado is seeking a senior Electrical Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group. You will design, modify, and analyze electrical systems for nuclear power plants, collaborating with engineers and designers in a project team environment.

This hybrid role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years' experience, and proficiency in medium/low voltage systems, calculations, and drawings.

Qualifications

  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment.
  • Experience with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors).
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, work in a project team environment with engineers and designers on nuclear power plant electrical systems design, modification, and analysis.
  • Tackle challenging assignments including investigations, troubleshooting, and new designs.
  • Assist the lead or project manager to ensure on-time and within-budget project completion.
  • Prepare and review calculations such as three phase AC/DC power studies, short-circuit, voltage drop, and protective relay settings.
  • Prepare design input documentation for drawings and reports.
  • Review engineering reports and studies to meet client requirements and S&L formats.
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others.

This position is a hybrid work arrangement. You'll spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

This position will offer you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing nuclear power plant electrical systems.

Responsibilities Include
  • Under the direction of the electrical engineering lead or project manager, this position will offer you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing nuclear power plant electrical systems
  • You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering issues or design new electrical engineering systems.
  • Assist the electrical engineering lead or project manager in efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
  • Prepare and review detailed calculations, including three phase AC and DC power studies, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting and protective relay settings.
  • Prepare engineering documentation for design input for drawing production.
  • Prepare and review engineering reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation.

Essential Skills And Experience
  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required
  • 5 or more years of experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design, or modifications or replacements of existing systems; experience should include the selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications
  • Experience is required with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), equipment selection, and analytical calculations
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective working in teams and individual work
  • Detail oriented approach to work

  • PE license
  • MSEE

  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
