Job summary

Voyager Technologies in Houston, TX, seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to design, test, and integrate spaceflight avionics and electrical hardware, ensuring reliability across space systems. The role reports to the Senior Director of Engineering within the Engineering team based in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities include leading electronics design, PCB layout, documentation, and qualification testing, with travel up to 30% to launch sites and NASA facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field required.
  • 4–7 years of experience in space electrical design or other harsh environments; 7+ years total including space industry experience.
  • Extensive experience in the Space Hardware industry and maintaining traceability controls for electrical components.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of space-qualified electronics including power supplies and distribution systems.
  • Oversee PCB design: schematic layout, routing, and fabrication files.
  • Author assembly instructions, test procedures, interface requirements, and test/analysis reports.
  • Utilize test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers) for development and troubleshooting.
  • Perform qualification and acceptance testing on batteries, capacitors, and safety‑critical flight hardware.
  • Review payload designs to ensure compatibility with Voyager and NASA requirements.
  • Support proposals with technical approaches and cost/schedule estimates.
  • Deliver status reports and maintain traceability controls for electrical components and tools.

The Senior Electrical Engineer for space technologyis responsible for designing, testing, integrating, and operating spaceflight avionics and electrical hardware to advance space-based programs and ensure the reliability and performance of electrical systems.

The position reports to the Senior Director of Engineering and is part of the Engineering team based in Houston, TX.

In this role, the essential functions are:
  • Lead the design and development of space-qualified electronics including power supplies, power distribution systems, command and data handling systems, electromagnetic filters, sensors, integrated flight computers, and electrical cables and harnesses.
  • Oversee PCB design including schematic layout and routing, symbol and footprint creation, and generation of fabrication files and assembly drawings.
  • Author technical documents including assembly instructions, test procedures, interface requirements, and test and analysis reports.
  • Utilize test and measurement equipment — including digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers — to conduct electrical development and troubleshooting.
  • Perform and/or oversee qualification and acceptance testing on batteries, capacitors, containment vessels, and other safety‑critical flight hardware.
  • Review payload designs and provide feedback to payload developers to ensure compatibility and compliance with Voyager and NASA requirements.
  • Support proposal efforts by documenting technical approaches, providing solutions for proposal challenges, and contributing to cost and schedule estimates.
  • Deliver regular status reports to Engineering management and Program/Project managers, and maintain traceability controls for electrical components, sub‑components, systems, lab tools, and test equipment.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field required
Experience:
  • 4–7 years of experience in space electrical design and development or other harsh environments; 7+ years total experience including space industry experience
  • Extensive experience in the Space Hardware industry
  • Experience maintaining traceability controls for electrical components, sub‑components, systems, lab tools, and test equipment
Travel, Physical and/or Government Mandated Requirements:
  • Travel up to 30%, including the possibility of overnights, both foreign and domestic, to launch sites, customer facilities, and NASA/Government centers
  • Ability to lift, move or carry items or equipment up to 10 pounds
