Full job description

Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. We're looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Electrical Hardware team as we scale our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process for global production.

ECAM uses precise, room-temperature metal deposition to unlock geometries and applications that conventional metal AM can't reach. Since announcing our agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation, we're rapidly expanding our team to advance this disruptive technology across a wide range of electronics components—including data center infrastructure, wireless communications, and power electronics.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll own the design of the precision power delivery and analog sensing electronics at the heart of our ECAM printheads — from architecture and circuit design through bring-up, characterization, and the transition to volume production.

If you're excited to help shape the future of manufacturing alongside a growing team, come join us. We thrive on collaborative problem-solving and are eager to bring in diverse minds and perspectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Architect and design precision power supplies, current/voltage sources, and driver electronics that deliver tightly regulated, low-noise power to our electrochemical deposition electrodes.
  • Design analog sensing and signal-chain electronics — instrumentation front ends, precision current and voltage measurement, and ADC/DAC interfaces — to monitor and close the loop on the deposition process.
  • Own circuit design end to end: architecture, schematic capture, component selection, SPICE simulation, PCB layout direction, and design reviews.
  • Bring up, debug, and characterize new hardware in the lab; quantify accuracy, noise, stability, and thermal performance against system-level requirements and KPIs.
  • Translate process and system requirements into electrical specifications, partnering closely with firmware/controls, mechanical, and process engineering to integrate power and sensing into the printhead.
  • Drive designs from prototype through design-for-manufacturing and production ramp — including test strategy, calibration, and yield and reliability improvement.
  • Set technical direction and design standards for power and analog sensing hardware, and mentor engineers through design reviews.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience designing precision analog and power electronics.
  • Deep expertise in power supply and power-converter design — linear regulators, switch-mode converters, precision current sources/sinks, and driver circuits — with a strong grasp of control loops, stability, efficiency, and thermal trade-offs.
  • Strong analog and mixed-signal design skills: low-noise instrumentation and signal-chain design, precision current and voltage sensing, op-amps and instrumentation amplifiers, voltage references, and ADC/DAC interfacing.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and circuit simulation (e.g., SPICE/LTspice) and experience directing multilayer PCB layout for low-noise, high-precision designs.
  • Fluency with lab instrumentation — oscilloscopes, DMMs, source-measure units, and network/spectrum analyzers — for bring-up, characterization, and root-cause debugging.
  • Demonstrated ownership of designs from concept through production, including design-for-test, design-for-manufacturing, and defining specifications and KPIs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to move quickly in a high-growth, ambiguous environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with electrochemistry, electroplating, battery or electrochemical instrumentation, potentiostats, or other low-current precision-measurement applications.
  • Experience with multi-channel or multi-electrode drive systems, high-channel-count analog, or precision array electronics.
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI, grounding, and safety practices for mixed-signal and power systems.
  • Experience in semiconductor, MEMS, advanced packaging, or other precision manufacturing equipment; and exposure to firmware, FPGA, or digital control interfaces.

Why Work at Fabric8Labs?

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package, health, dental, and vision plans; 401(k) with employer match; and an unmetered vacation policy.
  • We have a collaborative work environment where we work in tight knit teams focused on transforming manufacturing technology.
  • Regular catered company events and celebrations, and a fully stocked breakroom!
