Job description

At Tesco Controls (a UFT company), our culture is grounded in the idea that the how we achieve results is just as important as the results themselves. Our winning behaviors guide the way we work, collaborate, and grow—both as individual employees and as a team. Our core winning behaviors are to Build Relationships, have a Relentless Drive for Results, to Communicate with Integrity and Focus, and to Be a Mentor, Teacher, Learner. These behaviors are more than words—they are the foundation of our success and continued growth. Here, you’ll join a stable, growing company where your work directly supports cleaner water, stronger communities, and critical infrastructure across the country. If you want meaningful work, real growth opportunities, and a team that takes pride in doing the right thing—you’ll find it here.

The Senior Electrical Engineer / Project Lead is Tesco’s advanced electrical product engineering practitioner. The role exists for engineers who have developed exceptional depth in industrial electrical equipment and can use that expertise to lead technical execution, mentor other engineers, establish project-specific methods, and deliver complex equipment packages without becoming a traditional people manager.

Depending on project scope and scale, the Senior Electrical Engineer / Project Lead may lead a complete switchboard, MCC, VFD lineup, pump-control, or control-panel project; lead one critical workstream; or serve as the technical authority supporting another project lead. The role remains hands‑on: senior technical leadership at Tesco means producing and reviewing engineering, working directly with Manufacturing Engineering and production, supporting FAT, and resolving field/application issues.

This role will require travel up to 10% of the time.

What you’ll do:
  • Lead technical execution for complex electrical equipment projects or workstreams involving UL 891 switchboards, Tesco MCC products, UL 845 MCC modifications under applicable OEM file-extension arrangements, VFD lineups, pump-control panels, UL 508A panels, service equipment, and related power/control packages.
  • Translate Tesco enterprise product standards and organizationally defined led engineering methods into practical project‑specific technical approaches, options, assemblies, and configuration rules.
  • Perform and review complete electrical equipment design using SolidWorks‑based model workflows, including one‑lines/schematics, physical layout, component and conductor selection, bus/power distribution, control power, interfaces, serviceability, clearances, BOMs, and downstream manufacturing requirements.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering before submittal and release to resolve constructability, listing, access, thermal, fabrication, bus/wiring, material, and production issues.
  • Engineer and review motor‑control, VFD, pump‑control, power‑distribution, service‑entrance, control‑panel, PLC/I/O interface, instrumentation‑interface, and related electrical functions according to project requirements and applicable standards.
  • Lead and mentor Electrical Engineers and Junior Electrical Engineers through real project work, design review, product application, shop engagement, FAT, troubleshooting, and field support.
  • Own difficult technical decisions and clearly communicate requirements, assumptions, calculations, standards, listing constraints, risks, and unresolved issues to the Project Manager and project team.
  • Support estimating and proposal development for electrical equipment and product packages using quantities, standard assemblies, validated productivity assumptions, material takeoffs, and project‑specific risk factors.
  • Participate in FAT, startup/field support, root‑cause analysis, NCR resolution, and lessons learned; convert recurring issues into improved standards, reusable assemblies, checklists, or design methods.
  • Participate in regular shop walks and personally interface with production whenever responsible for equipment in fabrication, assembly, wiring, or test.
What you bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with substantial industrial electrical‑equipment design experience required
  • Typically 8+ years of industrial electrical, motor‑control, power‑distribution, controls‑equipment, OEM, or systems‑integration experience with clear evidence of advanced technical capability and successful project execution.
  • Expert‑level capability in industrial electrical equipment design and application, with demonstrated depth in one or more of the following: switchboards, MCCs, VFD lineups, pump‑control packages, control panels, service equipment, or related manufactured power/control systems.
  • Strong design fundamentals including power distribution, bus/conductors, circuit protection, motor controls, VFDs, control power, PLC/I/O interfaces, instrumentation, grounding/bonding, SCCR, enclosure/environmental considerations, wire/bus routing, service clearances, thermal considerations, and maintainability.
  • Strong working knowledge of UL 508A and familiarity with UL 891, applicable OEM/UL 845 MCC modification requirements, NFPA 70/NEC, NEMA, utility/EUSERC requirements where applicable, and manufacturing/listing constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience using SolidWorks for electrical equipment or control‑panel design; experience with 3D layout, reusable assemblies, component libraries, BOM generation, design review, and controlled production/submittal output is strongly preferred. SolidWorks Electrical experience is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of PLC/OIT/HMI, instrumentation, communications, and control‑system interfaces sufficient to engineer complete electrical packages and coordinate effectively with software and field resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical work through design, submittal, manufacturing, FAT, field support, and customer acceptance without relying on formal supervisory authority.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff, conduct rigorous technical reviews, and convert technical judgment into repeatable standards and methods.
