Responsibilities

• Perform electrical engineering design including single and three-line diagrams, equipment layouts, grounding and protective-relaying settings.
• Develop electrical calculations: load, short-circuit, voltage drop, arc flash, motor starting, and lighting calculations.
• Prepare contract documents: electrical plans and specifications.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and provide guidance to junior engineers.
• Review vendor documents and ensure conformance with codes and standards.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Electrical Engineer with the potential to work out the Boise, ID; Overland Park, KS; Madison, WI or Virginia Beach, VA offices and be involved in projects with our Federal Power and Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

• Work within an electrical discipline team providing design on a wide range of projects.
• Involved from project inception to completion in the design and construction of facility and infrastructure projects, including new and renovation work.
• Perform complex electrical engineering work including the development of single lines, three lines, and wiring diagrams; general arrangements; equipment layouts; grounding designs, lightning protection risk analysis and system design; lighting design, specification development, conformance with industry standards, and construction support activities as needed.
• Develop electrical calculations that include but are not limited to load analysis, short circuit analysis, protective device time-current coordination study, arc flash analysis, voltage drop calculations, motor starting analysis, point-by-point lighting calculations, underground structure design, cable pulling tension calculations, equipment sizing, grounding touch and step potentials, protective device coordination and protective relaying device settings.
• Develop contract documents including but not limited to electrical plans, and specifications.
• Work individually or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and construction professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
• Assist with installation layouts, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with owner project requirements, specifications, permit applications, compliance documents, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-and mid-level engineers.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
• Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate-to-high-level risk mitigation activities.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for small, medium, and large capital projects.
• Professional Engineering license.
• Due to client requirements, the ability to successfully pass security background check to access facilities. The level of background check requires US citizenship.
• Knowledge and experience with federal government project design with understanding and direct application of UFCs, UFGSs, FCs, the NEC, ANSI/IEEE standards, NFPA standards, and ICC codes.
• Experience designing to NAVFAC and USACE standards.
• Experience within the engineering consulting environment.
• Ability to perform technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
• Ability to plan and conduct construction observations and site engineering investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, adhering to applicable WSP and site safety regulations and policies.
• Experience with providing critical review of vendor documents.
• Experience preparing complex technical deliverables.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
• Ability to travel inside the US and internationally depending on project-specific requirements.
• Solid foundation utilizing power distribution modeling software including SKM PTW and ETAP.
• Solid foundation utilizing lighting modeling software including AGI32.
• Solid foundation in implementing CAD and BIM software such as AutoCAD and REVIT.
• SpecsIntact specification authoring and editing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional certifications such as LEED AP and PMP.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $102,200 - $145,300

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
