Job description

Sr. Electrical Engineer (RF) to design, develop, and maintain a line of RF-Over-Fiber communication systems. While the products operate in the RF, this role focuses on the design of high-performance digital, signal integrity, and low-noise analog and power, control system circuitry.

The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, strong engineering discipline, and practical understanding of electrical engineering lifecycle, design for manufacturing, and will work closely with firmware, mechanical, RF engineering, manufacturing and test counterparts. As part of a small engineering team, this person will wear many hats, so a good candidate will be adaptable and proactive. Beyond technical design responsibilities, this engineer will help elevate engineering standards, develop processes, documentation, quality, and participate in collaborative engineering across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, design, analysis, and validation of complex electronic hardware and circuit systems.
  • Select appropriate electronic components and develop schematics, PCB layouts, and manufacturing documentation using Altium Designer.
  • Design and optimize a variety of circuits, including switching and linear power supplies, low-noise analog circuits, and high-speed digital systems, with a focus on reliability, thermal performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Conduct hardware bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis to resolve signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC/ESD, thermal, and reliability issues.
  • Provide ongoing engineering support for existing products, partnering with manufacturing teams and external manufacturing partners on production transfers, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Incorporate design‑for‑manufacturing (DFM), design‑for‑test (DFT), and design‑for‑reliability (DFR) principles throughout the product development and lifecycle management process.
  • Contribute to the development, documentation, execution, and continuous improvement of hardware validation, qualification, and testing processes.
  • Work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure successful transition of designs from engineering through manufacturing and production.
  • Maintain thorough engineering documentation and communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and developing commercial electronic products within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with schematic capture, PCB development, hardware integration, and electronic circuit debugging.
  • Solid knowledge of both analog and digital circuit design, including EMI/EMC, ESD protection, grounding, and low‑noise design techniques.
  • Experience using laboratory test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and spectrum analyzers; experience with BERTs and signal analyzers is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to take electronic products from initial concept and design through validation, manufacturing transfer, production release, and ongoing production support.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and resolve complex hardware and system‑level issues.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate engineering concepts for non‑technical stakeholders such as production and sales teams.
Desired Attributes
  • Systems‑oriented thinker with strong attention to detail and a focus on delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.
  • Highly organized and able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects, deadlines, and technical priorities.
  • Hands‑on engineer who enjoys working in a laboratory environment and solving challenging hardware problems through practical experimentation and troubleshooting.
  • Passionate about improving engineering standards, documentation, processes, and overall product development quality.
  • Collaborative professional who works effectively across hardware, firmware, manufacturing, operations, and other cross‑functional teams while constructively challenging existing approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, influence engineering best practices without direct authority, and mentor less‑experienced engineers.
  • Programming experience in C and/or Python is a plus.
  • Experience with RF, telecommunications, fiber‑optic, and/or industrial electronic applications is highly desirable.
