Job summary

Ben Aris LLC seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead reliability improvements for electrical distribution equipment in a refinery setting. You will specify designs, support maintenance, and advise on troubleshooting across low, medium, and high voltage systems.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in refinery/industrial environments, proficiency in electrical drawings and power system studies, and familiarity with EasyPower/SKM. Sponsorship is not offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of refinery/industrial or related experience including experience with medium voltage equipment.
• Ability to read electrical drawings (one-line/three-line diagrams, motor control schematics).
• Experience in power system analysis, fault analysis, load flow, coordination, and arc-flash analysis.
• Experience using electrical analysis software (EasyPower, SKM) preferred.
• Experience programming microprocessor relays (SEL) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical support for maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of refinery electrical systems and equipment (low, medium, and high voltage).
• Investigates electrical equipment failures and recommends reliability improvements.
• Develops electrical scope, engineering packages, and defines preventive maintenance for turnarounds and shutdowns.
• Develops equipment specifications and upgrade plans for reliability improvements.
• Reviews test data to evaluate health and service suitability and makes repair/replacement recommendations.
• Provides 24/7 technical support to a 24/4 facility.
• Supports front-end development, cost estimation, design, construction, and startup for projects and Management of Change packages.
• Assists in developing maintenance and operating procedures for electrical equipment.

About the job Senior Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for specification and design of reliability improvements for new, modified, and existing electrical distribution equipment, and providing engineering support to the electrical maintenance group for maintaining and troubleshooting of the existing refinery electrical system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides technical support for the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of the refinerys electrical systems and equipment (including low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment).
• Investigates electrical equipment failures and recommends actions to enhance the system and equipment reliability.
• Develops electrical scope, electrical engineering packages, and defines preventive maintenance to be performed for turnarounds and scheduled shutdowns.
• Develops electrical equipment specifications and associated reliability improvements/upgrade plans for that equipment.
• Reviews test data to evaluate health of electrical equipment, suitability for service, and make repair/replacement recommendations.
• Provide technical support as needed to a 24/4 facility.
• Provides technical support for front-end development, cost estimation, design, construction, and startup for projects and Management of Change packages.
• Assists in the development of maintenance and operating procedures for electrical equipment.
• Works to understand and promote Chalmette electrical practices.
• Maintains an understanding of industry standards (API, NFPA, NEC, IEEE, ASME, ANSI, ASCE).
• Maintains knowledge of electrical area classifications and is familiar with acceptable methods of satisfying the requirements of equipment installations in hazardous areas.
• Understands the requirements of process changes (e.g., Management of Change).

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of refinery/industrial or related experience including experience and knowledge with medium voltage equipment required.
• Ability to comprehend electrical drawings (one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, motor control schematics, etc.) required.
• Experience in power system analysis, fault analysis, load flow, coordination, and arc-flash analysis.
• Experience using electrical analysis software (EasyPower, SKM, etc.) preferred.
• Experience in programming microprocessor relays (SEL, etc.) preferred.
• Ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at different levels of engineering, design, maintenance, and management and with internal customers as well as suppliers.
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel.
• Understanding in the operation and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment, motors, motor starters, breakers, relay protection devices, transformers, and switchgear.
