Job description

Smarter, Better, Now.

ADB SAFEGATE leads the world in smart solutions that help airports handle more aircraft, safely and efficiently, from approach to departure. Our products and services can lift any airport's performance from approach, runway and taxiway lighting; to tower-based traffic control systems; to intelligent gate and docking automation.

The Opportunity....

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design, document, and test electrical and electronic subsystems and components for airfield lighting systems as a part of our Individual Lighting Control Monitoring System (ILCMS) team. This position will primarily focus on our Airside 4.0 product lineup including the LINC360 powerline communication controller and the ACE3 constant current regulator (CCR) controller line of products. The Senior Electrical Engineer will develop and maintain power components, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA), and embedded firmware to support advanced electronic systems.

You will make an impact by...
  • Develop microcomputer embedded systems from proof of concept phase to product launch with quality at top of mind.
  • Design analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power electronic circuits, including microcontroller-based systems, communication interfaces, signal conditioning, and monitoring circuitry.
  • Provide technical leadership and collaborate with cross-functional global teams during product planning, design reviews, risk assessments, and technology roadmap development.
  • Collaborate with firmware, systems, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and service engineering teams to ensure successful product integration and release.
  • Make architecture-level decisions affecting performance, reliability, manufacturability, cybersecurity, maintainability, and long-term product strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that reduce product cost, simplify manufacturing, and improve system performance.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including requirements, design specifications, interface definitions, test procedures, verification reports, and engineering change documentation.
  • Plan and execute hardware verification activities, including functional testing, environmental testing, regulatory compliance testing, test automation, reliability assessments, and root-cause investigations.
  • Lead cross-functional technical investigations and guide resolution of critical customer and field issues.
  • Partner with production teams to provide post-design support-including production line setup, assembly assistance, and end-of-line testing-while driving manufacturing and process efficiency improvements.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain to assess vendors' manufacturing capabilities and support the identification and qualification of alternate components.
  • Assist design, production, and validation teams in creating automated test fixtures when necessary.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for field troubleshooting, data collection, and site surveys both in the US and internationally.
The talent we want to inspire has...
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a background in embedded systems electronics design and 7+ years of experience with industrial products. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Skilled in designing microcomputer hardware and peripherals, including schematic development and bill of materials (BOM) creation.
  • Proficient in designing and implementing firmware for microcontrollers and embedded systems.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and debugging embedded systems at both the hardware and firmware levels.
  • Expert utilizing standard test equipment for development and troubleshooting, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and debuggers.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in electronic hardware design tools, preferably with Altium.
  • Experience in PCB layout design.
A plus but not a must....
  • Familiarity with high-speed data routing and electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation techniques in PCB design.
  • Experience with high-power electronics and PCB design, including constant current AC systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced electronics and EMC testing, utilizing tools such as network analyzers, ESD simulators, and RF testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with power line communication protocols, as well as other communication interfaces including UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, HDMI, and USB.
  • Experience working with STMicro microcontrollers.
