What we’re looking for:
Senior Electrical Engineer to join Clean Energy Deployment team. Responsible for reviewing solar & storage project designs, providing technical expertise in interconnection, construction, and assisting in commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs).
Hiring across hub offices: Chicago, Boston, DC, NY. Hybrid work supported. Reports to Director, Electrical Engineering.
What you’ll do:
- Specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers, and other major electrical equipment.
- Perform advanced electrical modeling in ETAP and AmpCalc to coordinate system protection, determine fault‑duty ratings, and calculate arc‑flash hazards.
- Manage scope of work for third‑party electrical engineers including studies; protection coordination, power flow, Arc Flash, Step/touch grounding analysis, PSCAD and PSSE modeling, substation design.
- Support Grid Integration and Project Engineering team.
- Review, analyze, and interpret utility pre‑screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiations.
- Witness test procedure review, code interpretation, protective settings development.
- Implement non‑wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid‑edge technologies.
- Train and mentor junior engineering personnel.
- Complete project design reviews; review single‑line, three‑line diagrams, and site layout designs for compliance with code, best practices, and utility requirements.
- Respond to RFIs on active construction projects as required.
- Provide technical support to commissioning.
- Review medium‑voltage equipment tests and factory tests.
- Develop mitigation plans for non‑performance to establish safe operation.
- Review RDB files and relay test reports.
- Certify mechanical completion on construction‑complete projects.
- Provide technical support to development, EPC, and O&M departments for entire lifecycle of a project including permitting, construction, and asset management phases.
- Manage new product research and implementation initiatives.
- Participate in process improvement activities and maintenance of SOPs and best practices.
- Maintain professionalism and ethical conduct.
What you’ll bring:
- 6+ years electrical engineering experience, including 2+ years PV experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering.
- EIT certification required, PE preferred.
- Utility‑scale design and HV substation or effective grounding experience preferred.
- AutoCAD proficiency.
- ETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling experience.
- Familiarity with AcSELerator and RDB generation.
- Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as NEC, IBC, IFC and other standards.
- Strong knowledge of electrical principles, including medium‑voltage distribution, protection system coordination and relaying principles.
- Knowledge of construction means and methods.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain.
- Demonstrates command of engineering fundamentals, applicable codes, utility and equipment requirements, and sound judgment to lead complex design, analysis, troubleshooting, and commissioning efforts.
- Produces high‑quality work product with accuracy, ensuring calculations, drawings and documentation support quality, constructability and code compliance.
- Manages multiple priorities independently, meets deadlines, proactively identifies risks and dependencies.
- Exercises strong engineering judgment on complex issues, escalates appropriately, and adapts to evolving project needs.

Compensation
The reasonably estimated salary for this role at Nexamp ranges from $135,000 - $150,000. Base salary may be eligible for incentive programs linked to performance (annual bonus, non‑annual sales incentives, other incentives). Eligibility for company stock option plan may also apply. Actual base salary may vary based on skills, qualifications, internal equity, performance, and geographic location.
