Job summary

Salas O’Brien is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex building electrical systems for diverse projects. The role involves mentoring design teams, coordinating utility interconnections, and performing comprehensive power studies to ensure high quality outcomes.

The position is hybrid and located in one of several U.S. locations, with a base salary range of $110,000–$150,000 USD and performance-based bonuses. A PE license is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required.
• Minimum 10 years designing and leading design teams for building electrical systems.
• Experience with power distribution and generation systems.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex building electrical systems across all project phases.
• Manage and mentor design teams, providing technical oversight and QA.
• Coordinate utility interconnections, medium-voltage distribution, standby and prime power generation, UPS, PV, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Perform power system studies (short circuit, load flow, harmonic analysis, arc flash) using SKM or EasyPower.
• Develop electrical master plans and support long-term infrastructure strategies.
• Support cogeneration and renewable energy integration, including PPA coordination.
• Collaborate with architects, owners, utilities, and contractors to resolve challenges.
• Provide utility rebate support and contribute to sustainable design (LEED, WELL, etc.).
• Participate in client meetings and project coordination.

Senior Electrical Engineer (Hybrid)

Job Summary:

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and delivery of complex building electrical systems across all project phases
• Manage and mentor design teams, providing technical oversight and quality assurance
• Design and coordinate systems including utility interconnections, medium-voltage distribution, standby and prime power generation, UPS systems, photovoltaic power systems, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, and lightning protection
• Perform and oversee power system studies including short circuit, load flow, power quality, harmonic analysis, and arc flash analysis using SKM Systems Analysis and/or EasyPower
• Develop electrical master plans and support long-term infrastructure strategies
• Support cogeneration, prime-rated power, and renewable energy system integration, including PPA coordination
• Collaborate with architects, owners, utilities, and contractors to resolve technical challenges
• Provide utility rebate support and contribute to sustainable design strategies, including LEED, LBC, PHIUS, and WELL certifications
• Participate in client meetings, presentations, and project coordination efforts

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required
• Minimum of 10 years of experience designing and leading design teams for building electrical systems
• Professional Engineer (PE) license - preferred
• Demonstrated experience with complex power distribution and generation systems
• Proficiency with SKM Systems Analysis and/or EasyPower preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work confidently in client-facing environments
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously

Travel: Up to 20%

The expected base salary range for this role is $110,000-$150,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
