Job summary

Abbott's Heart Failure team is advancing CardioMEMS technologies to monitor pulmonary artery pressure and improve patient outcomes. The role spans R&D activities from concept to regulatory submission, with emphasis on electro-mechanical design, testing, and data analysis.

Based in Atlanta or other listed locations, the engineer collaborates across departments to deliver high-quality medical devices while complying with FDA/ISO standards and project milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or biomedical engineering or similar.
  • 5+ years’ engineering experience designing, testing, manufacturing or supporting.
  • Ability to deliver deliverables within a team and as individual contributor in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to distill complex topics into key points and concise content.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to next-gen CardioMEMS products and ensure patient care improvements.

The Opportunity

Electrical Engineer I/II or Senior Engineer– Heart Failure [Pleasanton, CA, Atlanta, GA or Burlington, MA]. The Heart Failure team is focused on helping people with heart failure manage their health and ultimately change and save lives. The engineer will be primarily working on the CardioMEMS HF system, which remotely monitors changes in pulmanry artery (PA) pressure, an early indicator of the onset of worsening heart failure, to aid physicians in preventing worsening heart failure, lower heart failure mortality rates, and improve quality of life for our heart failure patients. The role is within the R&D organization charged with developing and releasing the next generations of CardioMEMS components while also supporting the current generation of products.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a team committed to delivering the next generation of CardioMEMS products to help our patients (and their clinicians) manage their heart failure
  • Conduct bench and preclinical studies supporting product development teams for concept feasibility and formal regulatory submission
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of CardioMEMS electronic designs
  • Draft test protocols and reports
  • Independently plan, coordinate, and execute activity in support of project goals
  • Support design reviews
  • Support development of risk management documentation
  • Gain an understanding of the quality and regulatory requirements of Abbott, FDA and ISO regulations
  • Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or biomedical engineering, or similar
  • 5+ years’ experience designing, testing, manufacturing or other engineering support
  • Experience owning and driving deliverables within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization
  • Distilling complex topics into easily digestible content headlining key points
  • Demonstrated initiative in going beyond assigned tasks on own agency
  • History of applying critical thinking to address design challenges
  • Proficient in collaborating with project stakeholders (client and internal), end-users, business partners, and technical team members
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Ability to plan, execute, analyze, and document individual scientific studies
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data using statistical methods
  • Demonstrated history of two or more of the following
  • Releasing to production an electro-mechanical design with design-responsibility of the ECAD
  • Design of radio frequency antenna elements (modelling and characterization of antennas – preferably low frequency)
  • Use of automation for characterization and/or data analysis to spead design cycles
  • The translation of electrical requirements into circuit designs and specifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical device experience
  • Experience working with an electronic document control system (Windchill, etc.)
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a geographically diverse, matrixed organization

The base pay for this position is $78,000.00 – $156,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
