Job summary

Thea Energy in the United States is seeking a Senior Electrical Distribution Systems Engineer to lead the design and integration of power supplies, distribution networks, grid interconnection, STATCOM, and BESS for its Eos stellarator project. You will drive HV/MV infrastructure, simulations, and coordination with EPCs and utilities to ensure robust, reliable energy delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in power systems engineering including substation design.
• Experience with medium- and high-voltage distribution (up to 230kV preferred).
• Proficiency with ETAP, PowerFactory, SKM Power Tools, or PSCAD.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NFPA, IEC standards and interconnection requirements.
• Experience with BESS, UPS, and EMS.
• Experience coordinating with utility providers, EPC contractors, and third-party interconnection consultants.
• Understanding of power supply dynamic behavior and grid stability.
• SCADA/EMS integration and protective device coordination.
• Experience in fusion devices or accelerators.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of the Eos power distribution architecture including HV/MV, switchgear, and back-up circuits.
• Define grounding, earthing, surge, and lightning protection strategies.
• Evaluate grid interconnection, backup gens, STATCOM, and BESS for load balancing.
• Run load flow, short-circuit, and transient stability simulations using ETAP/PowerFactory/PSCAD.
• Model time-varying load profiles and estimate steady-state vs transient demands.
• Contribute to plant power management strategy and load shedding philosophy.
• Develop technical specs, single-line diagrams, protection philosophies.
• Lead technical requirements for external EPC firms for final design and commissioning.
• Participate in design reviews, FAT/SAT, vendor interface, field verification.
