Job summary

Cuhaci & Peterson Architects, Engineers & Planners, Inc. is seeking an experienced Engineering Designer III to perform electrical system design and layout in accordance with policies, standards, and codes. You will supervise, mentor, and coordinate with Project Engineers and PMs to ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery.

The role requires strong knowledge of codes, excellent communication, and leadership to educate clients on design and project requirements while meeting fast-paced deadlines.

Qualifications

  • BS Electrical Eng with 8+ years experience; EIT preferred.
  • Or Associate degree with 10+ years in electrical design under supervision by a PE.
  • Or 10+ years of practical electrical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Engineering Designer III requirements.
  • Knowledge of discipline codes and building codes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership to educate client on design and project requirements.
  • Meet with Project Engineer/PM to discuss scope, schedule, budget, site issues, and design review.
  • Coordinate with PM/Engineer to prepare design budgets and schedules.
  • Estimate discipline man-hours to complete design requirements.
  • Lead and supervise designers to complete projects on time and budget.
  • Implement system types per Engineer and provide complete construction documents.
  • Review designs with other disciplines for function and coordination.
  • Client contacts and coordination.
  • Quality control with all disciplines and project engineers.
  • Mentor and motivate Engineering Designers I, II and III.
  • Set high standards and integrity; act in company and client best interest.
  • Meet tight deadlines while maintaining design quality.
  • Additional duties as required.

Description
  • Individuals assigned to this classification will perform engineering calculations and must be able to layout and design systems in accordance with established policies, standards, procedures, code and shall exercise judgment in their application with minimal to no supervision.
  • Individuals should be able to apply practical knowledge and experience in their field to resolve problems and conflicts related to the projects assigned to them. Individuals should be capable of independent decision-making for engineering tasks on the projects assigned to them.
  • Individuals may supervise subordinate personnel and assist other engineers or designers.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience is required. EIT preferable.
Or
  • An associate degree with minimum 10 years’ experience in the design of Electrical systems under the supervision of a Professional Engineer required.
Or
  • 10+ years of practical experience in Electrical fields is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
  • Able to complete the job requirement for Engineering Designer III successfully.

  • Meet with the Project Engineer and the Project Manager to discuss the design scope, schedule, budget, phasing, site issues, and design review issues.
  • Work with Project Manager and Project Engineer to prepare design budgets and schedules.
  • Estimate discipline man-hours required to complete the design requirements of a project.
  • Provide leadership and assign design job functions to designated designers and supervise their efforts in completing the project on time and within budget.
  • Implement system types as selected by the Project Engineer and provide complete construction documents that match the client and project team’s requirements.
  • Review preliminary and final design with other disciplines for function, clearances, coordination, and final design selection. Perform a final review of the engineering drawings.
  • Client contacts and coordination.
  • Perform quality control (QC) on projects in coordination with all disciplines and project engineers.
  • Mentor and motivate Engineering Designers I, II and III.
  • Set high standards, Professional integrity and seek the company and client best interest.
  • Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design.
