Job summary

Cuhaci Peterson Architects, Engineers & Planners, Inc. in Orlando, FL, seeks an Engineering Designer III to perform electrical design calculations and layouts per codes with minimal supervision. The role may involve supervising junior staff and coordinating with the project team.

Responsibilities include preparing construction documents, leading design reviews, and mentoring designers while meeting schedule and budget constraints. EIT preferred; BS EE with 8+ years experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of experience or equivalent.
  • EIT certification is preferred.
  • Associate degree with 10+ years experience in electrical design under a Professional Engineer supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Engineering Designer III duties; design electrical systems per codes and standards.
  • Lead design activities and educate client on design requirements.
  • Coordinate meetings with Project Engineer and Project Manager to discuss scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Prepare design budgets and schedules with Project Engineer/PM.
  • Estimate man-hours and assign design tasks; supervise designers to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Provide complete construction documents matching client and project team requirements.
  • Review designs for function, coordination, and final selection with other disciplines.
  • Mentor Designers I-III and uphold high professional standards.

Description
  • Individuals assigned to this classification will perform engineering calculations and must be able to layout and design systems in accordance with established policies, standards, procedures, code and shall exercise judgment in their application with minimal to no supervision.
  • Individuals should be able to apply practical knowledge and experience in their field to resolve problems and conflicts related to the projects assigned to them. Individuals should be capable of independent decision‑making for engineering tasks on the projects assigned to them.
  • Individuals may supervise subordinate personnel and assist other engineers or designers.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience is required. EIT preferable.
Or
  • An associate degree with minimum 10 years' experience in the design of Electrical systems under the supervision of a Professional Engineer required.
Or
  • 10+ years of practical experience in Electrical fields is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
  • Able to complete the job requirement for Engineering Designer III successfully.
  • Excellent knowledge of discipline specific codes and other building codes.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good leadership skills to educate client on design and other project requirements.
  • Meet with the Project Engineer and the Project Manager to discuss the design scope, schedule, budget, phasing, site issues, and design review issues.
  • Work with Project Manager and Project Engineer to prepare design budgets and schedules.
  • Estimate discipline man‑hours required to complete the design requirements of a project.
  • Provide leadership and assign design job functions to designated designers and supervise their efforts in completing the project on time and within budget.
  • Implement system types as selected by the Project Engineer and provide complete construction documents that match the client and project team's requirements.
  • Review preliminary and final design with other disciplines for function, clearances, coordination, and final design selection. Perform a final review of the engineering drawings.
  • Client contacts and coordination.
  • Perform quality control (QC) on projects in coordination with all disciplines and project engineers.
  • Mentor and motivate Engineering Designers I, II and III.
  • Set high standards, Professional integrity and seek the company and client best interest.
  • Ability to meet fast‑paced deadlines while maintaining quality design.
