Job summary

EXP is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer/Engineer to join the Federal and Government MEP Team. This role is based in Orlando, Florida, with collaboration across EXP’s national offices as needed.

You will design electrical systems for Federal projects and mentor a team of engineers and designers. Responsibilities include leading design efforts, applying NEC/UFC guidelines, coordinating with project managers, performing field verifications, and preparing studies and reports for electrical

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Federal and Government building design experience.
• Engineering degree: BS Architectural Engineering or BS Electrical Engineering.
• Proficient in Revit MEP; NEC/UFC knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor design staff in technical and non-technical skills.
• QC own work and submittals; review drawings and RFIs.
• Collaborate with project managers to meet budgets and deliverables.
• Develop and execute electrical work plans to meet schedule and budget.
• Represent EXP in meetings; perform field verification and take-offs.
• Lead contractor meetings during bid phase; evaluate pricing.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be part of the Federal and Government MEP Team and will work from one of our offices in Orlando, Florida; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; or Raleigh, North Carolina.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Effectively lead and mentor design level staff in both technical and non-technical skills.
• Effectively QC own work and work of other staff (IE: drawings, RFI answers, submittal reviews).
• Demonstrate ability to collaborate with project manager in determining deliverables to meet project budget.
• Effectively execute deliverables to meet project budget.
• Independently represent EXP in project meetings / site visits; properly document results as required.
• Apply NEC, NFPA, UFC Guidelines, and applicable building codes.
• Successfully solve complex problems within time & budget.
• Develop, monitor, and successfully execute electrical work plans to meet schedule and budget.
• Demonstrate ability to educate clients on code requirements during meetings, design charettes, etc.
• Independently prepare studies and reports for electrical systems and present findings to client.
• Developing tools or standards to improve efficiency and/or quality of EXP work product.
• Expert in specific electrical requirements for applications within Federal sector.
• Evaluate Value Engineering (cost cutting) items with respect to EXP’s level of risk.
• Lead the implementation of Basis of Design narratives into DD and CD drawings.
• Demonstrate high level of knowledge of lighting, normal and emergency power, fire alarm and mass notification systems.
• Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects independently.
• Lead meetings with contractors during bid phase to review the design details.
• Evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimates.
• Perform at a ‘responsible charge’ level of meeting EXP’s design and quality levels.
• Demonstrate presentation skills through internal and external technical presentations.
• Lead participation in voluntary training opportunities such as vendor lunch and learns. (IE: engage and ask questions).
• Positively contribute to EXP and local office culture.

What your experience looks like

• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in related design of Federal and Government building projects.
• Engineering Degree (BS Architectural Engineering, or BS Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree)
• Thorough knowledge of NEC, UFC Guidelines and other codes.
• Revit MEP proficient
• PE License preferred but not required
• Ability to travel as needed to site and review meetings.
