Job summary

Johnson Service Group, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer for a long-term contract in Birmingham, AL. The role emphasizes detailed design and field support across EPC environments.

Responsibilities include developing single-line diagrams, cable schedules, MTOs, grounding and protection systems, plus on-site startup support and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. PE license preferred or pursuing licensure.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • PE license preferred or actively working toward licensure.
  • 7+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical, preferably in EPC environments.
  • Knowledgeable in electrical design software (AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, ElecDes, ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, A6132, Dialux).
  • Proficiency in PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and field instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of NEC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Ability to produce efficient, constructible designs with attention to cost and schedule.
  • Experience with EPC project workflows and documentation standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Access & Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed design deliverables including: Single-line diagrams, Motor elementary diagrams, Interconnect diagrams, Electrical cable schedules, Equipment specification, Material take-offs (MTOs).
  • Grounding, lighting, lightning protection, and heat trace systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations to validate design integrity.
  • Design and implement instrumentation systems for process control and monitoring.
  • Conduct arc flash studies, grounding grid analysis, and relay coordination.
  • Prepare construction packages and support field implementation.
  • Ensure designs meet client expectations, industry standards, and project specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project alignment.
  • Provide on-site startup and commissioning support as needed.
  • Recognize and communicate scope changes.
