Job summary

Hitachi Rail USA, Inc. in Hagerstown, MD seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead design activities for vehicle electrical systems.

You will develop functional schemes, wiring diagrams, and production documentation for complex railcar electrical subsystems, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. The role requires 5+ years in electrical design engineering, familiarity with railway regulations, and proficiency in CAD/EDA tools and DOORS.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Design Engineering.
  • Experience in the railway industry focused on Electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of railway electrical design regulations and testing practices.
  • Familiarity with Word, Excel, Access and office automation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop functional schemes for vehicle and subassemblies.
  • Create wiring diagrams for vehicle and subassemblies.
  • Prepare electrical documentation for production (topographic diagrams, cable routing, layouts, harness drawings).
  • Design electrical subassemblies (cubicle, boxes, etc.).
  • Define electro/mechanical components and wiring requirements.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Electrical Design Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks in Engineering Department. The position is based in Hagerstown, MD.

Accountabilities
  • Development of functional schemes (vehicle and subassemblies)
  • Development of wiring diagrams (vehicle and subassemblies)
  • Development of electrical documentation for production (topographic diagrams, cable routing, component layouts, wiring tables, harness drawings etc.)
  • Design of electrical subassemblies (electrical cubicle in the compartment, electrical boxes outside the car, etc.)
  • Definition of electro/mechanical components and electrical components for wiring
  • Preparation of system requirements specification and component technical specification
  • Preparation of the electrical requirements specifications of the vehicle
  • Support during the on-board integration test for electrical functions
  • Design review with Clients and Suppliers
Required Skills/ Knowledge
  • 5+ years of experience in Electrical Design Engineering.
  • Experience (if any) in the railway industry with the role of Systems Electrical Engineer and/or Designer focused on Electrical systems.
  • Recommended knowledge of the main regulations relating to electrical systems in the railway business, for design and testing.
  • Recommended knowledge of the main office automation software/tools (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Recommended knowledge of mechanical design software (Autocad, Creo, Catia, etc.) and the IBM DOORS requirements management tool.
  • Recommended knowledge of electrical design software (preferred E3 Zuken).
  • Recommended knowledge of Engineering Processes and Railway Operations.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, with the attitude to contribute with constructive and practical ideas.
  • Readiness to work effectively in a collaborative, fast paced, multitasking international environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously in teams and for projects is required.
  • Availability for short-term national and international business trips.

Education/Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related discipline, with relevant industry experience.

The salary range for this position is $115,175 to $172,762 per year.

Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
