Skydio is seeking an engineer focused on electric motors and propulsion to model, architect, optimize, and refine electric propulsion systems powering our drones. The role involves end-to-end propulsion system understanding, from batteries to propellers, with emphasis on performance, efficiency, and size.

The position offers a base salary with equity and comprehensive benefits. FAA Part 107 certification within 60 days is encouraged for selected roles and may be required for specific positions.

Qualifikationen

• Strong mathematical and physical understanding on motor power and loss mechanisms.
• Excellent knowledge on finite element method.
• Knowledge on motor thermal modeling.
• Experience on electric motor loss characterization.
• Knowledge on motor control theory.

Aufgaben

• Model, architect, and optimize the propulsion system from ESCs to motors and propellers.
• Develop test plans and perform measurements of motor losses and flux.
• Design motor optimizations to improve performance, efficiency and size.
• Create simulation models for thermal development and system engineering.
• Integrate with motor control team and ESCs.
• Familiarity with construction and manufacturing techniques of outrunner PMSMs in the ~500W size class.
• End-to-end understanding of drone propulsion from battery to ESC to motors.
• Aim to obtain FAA Part 107 certification within 60 days of employment.
