The Atlantic in Washington, DC, is seeking a senior editor to lead the Science and Health team. This editor will oversee staff writers and collaborate with editors to produce stories that shape the national conversation about science.

The ideal candidate has at least ten years of experience, a proven record of leadership, and the ability to assign high‑quality magazine features that appeal to a broad audience. Night, early morning, and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience, with a demonstrated ability to define the conversation around issues of national importance
• Strong leadership abilities and experience managing reporters
• Equal comfort editing fast-breaking scoops, shaping ideas-driven pieces, and overseeing deeply reported projects

Responsabilités

• Oversee staff writers and work with editors to produce stories that lead the national conversation about science
• Assign magazine stories of the highest standard that speak to a wide audience and encourage narrative sophistication
