Job summary

Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association’s Air Safety Institute seeks a Senior Editor to lead editorial direction across digital and print content, video scripts, and social media. You will shape voice and quality, ensure accurate, engaging aviation safety storytelling, and drive audience growth through strategic content initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field with strong writing and editing credentials.
  • 5–10 years of aviation writing/editing experience with leadership in content creation and editorial coordination.
  • FAA Private Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead creative projects, mentor teams, and drive content innovation.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills with attention to accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Produce original, insightful, engaging safety content across publications, video scripts, newsletters, and social posts.
  • Ensure materials are well‑researched, accurate, and aligned with ASI and AOPA messaging.
  • Provide editorial support to leadership and coordinate with media relations for public communications.
  • Write monthly safety articles for AOPA Pilot and Flight Training magazines.
  • Contribute ideas drawing from flying experience, aviation knowledge, and industry contacts.
  • Manage the ASI content release calendar and distribution across channels.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to innovate content strategies and growth.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and coaching of freelance writers to maintain editorial excellence.
  • Represent ASI within AOPA and at external events as needed.
