Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or related field is required.
• Master's degree or PhD preferred.
• Strong writing and editing skills are highly valued.
• Some experience with stakeholder management is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Proactively secure earned media placements in national, international, regional and local media markets.
• Pursue a broad range of story types, including news, features, Op Eds and use of St. Jude experts for commentary.
• Identify appropriate outlets for outreach based on audience, geography and goals; maintain journalist contacts.
• Collaborate with investigators to assemble scientific information for media.
• Coordinate communication methods to convey events to media.
• Work with faculty to convey research and discoveries while observing embargoes.
• Leverage media networks to maximize coverage for events.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to colleagues on processes.
• Perform other duties to meet department goals.

Education

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or related field

Master's degree or PhD preferred
