Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to perform construction and maintenance tasks. The role includes operating multiple heavy machines, performing pre-trip inspections, and maintaining drainage and storm water facilities.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma and 4 years’ related experience, plus a valid CDL. The position may involve leadership duties and shift variations to meet project needs.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four years' experience in maintenance and/or construction.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements within 120 days.
• Must maintain a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operates a minimum of two types of heavy equipment per the Equipment Training Program.
• Drives trucks and trailer rigs to haul equipment and materials.
• Performs pre-trip inspections and reports malfunctions.
• Maintains drainage right of ways and storm water facilities.
• Provides leadership and training as needed.
