Job summary

The Division of Occupational Safety (DOSH) within the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries seeks a Compliance Industrial Safety & Health Investigator 3 (CISHI3). The role involves conducting safety and health investigations in both private and public sectors, handling complex cases, and contributing to statewide enforcement consistency.

The position offers extensive in-training, classroom instruction, and field mentorship, with travel required between sites.

Qualifications

• A valid and unrestricted driver’s license or equivalent.
• Five years’ experience as a DOSH CISHI or equivalent safety/health investigator or industrial hygienist.
• Bachelor of Science in occupational safety and health plus five years of occupational/industrial safety experience or seven years of journey-level safety experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety and health investigations across private and public sectors, including high-profile cases.
• Complete inspections and investigation reports with proper classification of violations and penalties.
• Collaborate with DOSH Management, the Attorney General’s Office and other agencies to ensure policy consistency.
• Provide technical expertise on challenging or unusual cases during inspections.
• Drive workload management and data trend analysis to improve worker safety programs.
• Engage in extensive training and on-the-job investigations to build investigative independence.
