Job summary

Qualifications

• Five years of forensic DNA analysis experience in a laboratory setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic related field with genetics/biochemistry coursework.
• Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Experience must include identification of bodily fluids, DNA extraction on automated platforms, STR/Y-STR profiling, and mixture interpretation with probabilistic genotyping software.
• Must be able to obtain DoD Secret clearance and US passport; medical assessment per customer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Examine evidence in consultation with firearms and latent print analysts to ensure collection approaches won’t hinder other forensic data.
• Ensure proper chain of custody is maintained.
• Collect potential DNA samples using approved procedures; properly package, label and store samples.
• Use photographic equipment to capture images of evidence and exhibits for analysis and documentation.
• Generate STR DNA profiles from evidence and reference samples.
• Analyze and interpret data using probabilistic genotyping software.
• Annotate case file documentation and generate reports detailing processing techniques and results.
• Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and worksheets.
• Perform instrument maintenance.
