Job summary

IBM is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Kora Compute team to design, build, and operate distributed systems powering Kafka workloads at cloud scale. You will contribute across design, implementation, and production support, collaborating with product, infrastructure, and other engineering teams.

You will mentor teammates, participate in code reviews, and help advance reliability, performance, and observability across services, while maintaining a customer-focused approach and strong

Qualifications

Experience building distributed systems and large-scale backend services.
Proficiency in Java or another JVM language; Kafka or stream processing is a plus.
Knowledge of concurrency, replication, fault tolerance, and performance tradeoffs.
Experience designing reliable services and diagnosing production issues using logs, metrics, and traces.
Strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate across teams.
Customer-focused mindset and commitment to secure, resilient systems.

Responsibilities

Design and deliver distributed systems features for Kafka-based cloud services, prioritizing correctness, availability, latency, and throughput.
Build and evolve components for Confluent Cloud, including brokers, compute, networking, and coordination.
