SCN BestCo is seeking a Senior Director, Value Stream to lead end-to-end product form value streams, driving continuous improvement across operations, quality and safety. You will partner with engineering, planning, logistics, and commercial teams to optimize margins and ensure GMP compliance.

The role requires building and directing a high-performing team, developing manufacturing strategies, managing budgets, and delivering on KPIs while supporting new product launches and process enhancements.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering or technical field.
  • 12 years in manufacturing in a regulated environment.
  • 10 years of direct people management and cross-functional leadership.
  • Working knowledge of cGMPs in a regulated industry.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of safety, quality and production improvements.
  • Strong financial/cost management and budgeting experience.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and programs.
  • Familiarity with lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement across all areas of the value stream to improve operations and business metrics.
  • Lead end-to-end commercialization programs and ensure readiness of operations and supporting functions.
  • Define short- and long-term models to improve margins for assigned product forms.
  • Partner with sales, product development and other functions to build margin-accretive portfolios.
  • Lead the value stream team to meet daily, weekly and monthly objectives and track performance.
  • Develop and track KPIs and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the value stream.
  • Work with maintenance and engineering to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Develop standard work and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and GMP standards.
  • Build a high-performing, agile team and plan workforce needs.
  • Participate in cross-functional strategy teams for product development and launches.
  • Manage annual department budget and optimize labor and overhead costs.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed (10-20%).

The Senior Director, Value Stream has end to end responsibility for a specified grouping of product forms. The position’s focus is primarily on driving continuous improvement across all areas of the supply chain (i.e., operational productivity, customer service, safety, profit, etc.). The Senior Director, Value Stream develops manufacturing strategies to optimize results across the end-to-end product family supply chain. The position works closely with engineering, maintenance, continuous improvement, planning, quality, safety, accounting, and logistics to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate all activities of production to include safety, quality, production, and cost control. The Senior Director, Value Stream ensures that the highest standards of safety are followed to protect our employees and that all procedures (SOPs) and practices (GMPs) are strictly followed to ensure product quality and consumer safety. The position also works with commercial and customer service to design and execute strategies and projects to commercialize new products while optimizing the margin structure on the existing portfolio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement across all areas of the product form that meaningfully improves operational and business outcomes.
  • Lead operational aspects of respective value stream commercialization program with support from team while ensuring end to end supply chain and supporting functions are ready and capable of supporting commercial operations through launch and ramp-up.
  • Define short- and long-term models for commercial operations to deliver margin improvement.
  • Partner with sales and product development to build a margin accretive portfolio of new products for assigned forms.
  • Lead value stream team to deliver daily, weekly, monthly expectations to maintain accurate accounting of operational and commercialization performance.
  • Partner with functional leaders to support opportunities, impact analysis, priorities, and resources to achieve overall site and product form objectives.
  • Develop and track operational, compliance, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics. Evaluate, develop, and implement continuous improvements and best practices for assigned value stream.
  • Work with maintenance and engineering to troubleshoot process problems and identify solutions that reduce downtime in a cost-effective manner. Work to assure that department equipment and technology keep up with ever-changing customer needs while providing return on investment.
  • Understand, document, develop, and improve standard work that supports consistent manufacturing performance. Hold all employees accountable for following standard work and meeting company core values.
  • Develop and build a high performing, agile team.
  • Conduct workforce planning exercises to determine organizational staffing needs while looking for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Actively participate in and contributes to technology transfer, start-ups, design, and implementation of process changes, typically working on cross-functional teams.
  • Lead team to deliver on customer service commitments while optimizing production schedules for efficiency.
  • Work with finance department to establish and maintain annual department budget to maximize plant profitability. Maintain adequate plant staffing and control labor and other overhead costs. Monitor product margins and actively seeks ways to drive additional profitability.
  • Participate on a variety of strategy related cross-functional teams to optimize product development and launch, manufacturing capacity utilization, and organizational development.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed (10-20%).

The Senior Director, Value Stream carries out People Leader responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Hire, terminate, train, develop, review performance, and administer corrective action for staff.
  • Plan organizational structure, position content and staffing.
  • Develop a pipeline of future leaders and develops talent.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or other technical discipline.
  • 12 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in a highly regulated environment.
  • 10 years’ direct people management experience, demonstrating the ability to direct, lead, and coach employees within direct span of control, as well as the ability to work cross-functionally with peers and support group resources to achieve results.
  • Working knowledge of cGMP’s for a highly regulated industry.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills; ability to build and maintain effective relationships at all levels and gain reputation as a trusted leader, advisor, and business partner.
  • Proven leader with an excellent track record of achieving operational results in safety, quality, and production utilizing a data driven waste reduction strategy.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical, conflict resolution and change management skills.
  • Proven track record demonstrating strong financial / cost management skills and the ability to meet budget commitments.
  • Proven ability to lead, direct and integrate cross-functional, cross-organizational, multi-disciplinary and/or virtual project teams to meet business objectives.
  • Ability to drive and appropriately prioritize requirements and activities.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature under the stress of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
  • Experience leading significant change management initiatives to successful outcomes.
  • Familiarity with lean tools, six sigma, kaizen, and other continuous improvement methods.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate, verbally and written, with internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business administration or related field of study.
  • Experience, training, or certification in continuous improvement methods (lean, six sigma, Kaizen, etc.).
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, food, chemical, or consumer goods manufacturing.
