Job summary

JNJ Innovative Medicine in New Jersey seeks a senior leader to drive Program Management across portfolios. You will lead a global, matrixed team, align development plans with governance milestones, and push innovative project management practices to optimize portfolio value.

The role emphasizes strategic leadership, talent development, and cross-functional collaboration with R&D, finance, and ED leaders. Domestic and international travel may be involved.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in a scientific discipline required.
  • Minimum of 15 years with progressive leadership experience in the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of people management experience required.
  • Expert knowledge of drug development process over the product life cycle.
  • Expert knowledge of project management and portfolio management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Program Management group.
  • Drive allocation, development, and training of resources supporting portfolio execution.
  • Partner with DU DAS or ED Leaders and Therapeutic Area DAS leadership to operationalize compound development strategy.
  • Identify and escape portfolio and program risks; collaborate with R&D functions on resolution.
  • Plan resources according to the Global Development workforce management plan and address capability gaps.
  • Hire, onboard, and train resources needed to execute the portfolio.
  • Lead Program Management Leaders as thought partners to Compound Development Team leaders.
  • Provide direct reporting and operational leadership over the DAS PML group and portfolio.
  • Support finance, milestones, governance, and Compound Development Plan alignment.
  • Drive excellence, efficiency, and consistency across project management teams and cross-functional connections.
  • Ensure Program Management capabilities, innovations, and best practices deployed across portfolios.

Job description

  • Drive allocation, development, and training of resources supporting portfolio execution
  • Partner with DU DAS or ED Leaders and Therapeutic Area DAS leadership to operationalize compound development strategy and optimize portfolio value

  • Participate in Delivery Unit, DAS, and ED meetings and contribute to annual progress reports
  • Develop and influence internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Manage project resource planning, budgets, resource allocation, and staff workload
  • Identify high-impact opportunities and implement innovative project management methodologies and improved processes
  • Build a high-performing team through development, performance management, coaching, succession planning, engagement, inclusion, and Credo Behaviors
  • Represent JNJ Innovative Medicine at program management congresses through presentations or panel membership
Requirements
  • BS degree in a scientific discipline required
  • Minimum of 15 years with progressive leadership experience in the Pharmaceutical industry
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of people management experience required
  • Expert knowledge of drug development process over the product life cycle, from discovery to marketing
  • Expert knowledge of project management and portfolio management
  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading teams through change and to higher performance
  • Successful track record of developing talent
  • Effective leadership, communication, influencing, collaboration, teaming, integrity, results orientation, sense of urgency, and complexity-management skills
  • Ability to establish strong relationships in a global matrix environment
  • Domestic and international travel up to 10% may be required
