Job summary

Ellevation, a Boston-based education technology company, seeks a Senior Staff Engineer to lead security and cross-squad platform initiatives. You will own security practice, guide Staff Engineers, and balance CA standards with Ellevation product priorities.

You'll work with engineering managers and product leads across eight squads to shape and deliver critical R&D programs, ensuring security is integrated from design to deployment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering and leadership of engineering teams.
• Experience hiring and growing senior/staff engineers as technical leaders.
• Track record of solving large, ambiguous problems spanning multiple squads (e.g., platform modernization, authentication).
• Strong foundation in modern web apps, cloud infra, and CI/CD; able to judge tradeoffs.
• Experience communicating risk to executive audiences.

Responsibilities

• Identify cross-squad problems across platform modernization, authentication, dependency health, and security; decide what to tackle now.
• Lead and grow the Staff Engineer group, setting direction and allocating time.
• Own security practice, translating CA standards into practical Ellevation processes.
• Manage CA security relationship, reporting remediation progress and KPIs.
