Job Title: Senior Director of Field Operations

Reports To: Vice President of Field Operations

Employment Type: Full-Time

Travel Requirement: Up to 50%

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 10+ years of experience

Position Summary

The Senior Director of Field Operations is responsible for overseeing all sites with operations contracts, supporting the sales team, and managing day-to-day workflows. This role serves as the primary liaison between the company and clients, ensuring seamless communication with both customers and senior management.

Success in this position requires close collaboration with various departments to ensure site operations meet design specifications, customer needs are addressed promptly, and operational challenges are resolved efficiently. Extensive travel across the U.S. is required.

This role demands strong project documentation and logistics management skills, and a solid understanding of OSHA compliance, capital equipment design, plant operations, and construction standards. The ideal candidate will work closely with engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to deliver effective water and wastewater treatment solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with process, engineering, finance, and leadership teams to:
  • Track P&L by site
  • Ensure timely billing of contracts and services
  • Monitor passthrough expenses via NetSuite
  • Lead site teams and implement CMMS maintenance systems
  • Monitor and support employee performance, engagement, and discipline through performance improvement plans when needed
  • Maintain regular client communication across all sites for performance optimization and monthly operations alignment
  • Apply project management and industry expertise to execute operations profitably, especially for complex water and wastewater projects
  • Develop talent in a remote, dispersed workforce to ensure compliance with contractual volume and quality requirements
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and present actionable plans to achieve them
  • Partner with leadership to assess staffing needs and optimize field resources
  • Ensure safe site operations in collaboration with the safety team, including OSHA compliance
  • Support new plant startups and commissioning activities
  • Foster a culture of service excellence and drive continuous improvement across all sites
  • Develop and report on Field Operations Department OKRs
  • Set team goals and ensure adherence to company policies

Typical Duties

  • Identify and manage training and development goals for the team
  • Oversee system controls using Ignition, Allen-Bradley, and other tools; respond to remote alarms as needed
  • Analyze site data to evaluate trends, disruptions, and compliance
  • Review and advise on technical documents including:
  • As-builts
  • P&IDs, PFDs
  • O&M manuals
  • Design standards
  • Preventative maintenance procedures
  • Develop and revise operational protocols for both new and existing sites
  • Participate in Project Controls Narrative reviews
  • Assist engineering in operations turnover packages
  • Approve team hours, assignments, and O&M tasks
  • Initiate procurement of facility needs
  • Review and approve expenses and vendor invoices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of water/wastewater technologies: MBR, UF, RO, anaerobic treatment
  • Leadership and diplomatic skills for managing teams and clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering documents
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Industrial electrical and instrumentation design
  • Packaged/skidded equipment and controls
  • Process equipment and best practices in wastewater treatment
  • Experience with the design, operation, and optimization of WWTPs, preferably in food and beverage or industrial sectors
  • Competence in hydraulic, electrical, and chemical handling principles
  • Ability to work independently and manage shifting field priorities
  • Willingness to travel frequently across the U.S.

  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
  • UV and chemical dosing systems
  • PLC control and programming
  • Solids handling, neutralization, pH control, EGSB, RNG, anaerobic/aerobic digesters
  • Ability to work independently in the field while representing the company professionally
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to changing demands
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in client relationship management and team leadership
  • Skilled in compiling monthly reports with trend analysis, financials, and labor tracking
