Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine, CA, is seeking a Senior Director Medical Affairs to set and direct the strategy for the Transcatheter Mitral & Tricuspid (TMTT) unit, leading the team to deliver clinical evidence and support scientific communications for field claims.

You will drive medical information, publications, and strategic communications while mentoring talent and collaborating across functions to advance cardiovascular therapies and improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Medical Affairs activities for the TMTT business unit, delivering clinical evidence to physicians.
  • Develop and implement strategies for scientific communications and medical information.
  • Lead in developing and reviewing product claims and educational objectives.
  • Oversee publications in peer‑reviewed journals and physician podium presentations.
  • Plan strategic activities and prioritize projects to meet business objectives.
  • Mentor and develop talent, with succession planning aligned to growth.
  • Identify risks and drive mitigation strategies in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
  • Communicate recommendations to senior leadership and deliver executive‑level briefings.

The Senior Director Medical Affairs will be a strong leader with important contribution to the Transcatheter Mitral & Tricuspid (TMTT) business unit to set/directly influence the Medical Affairs strategy and accomplish objectives through leading the work of direct reports and broader team.

What you will make an impact by
  • Direct medical affairs activities (e.g., scientific communications, medical information & scientific support for claims in the field of transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions, and educational grants) with overall responsibility of leading the team to effectively deliver clinical evidence to the physician community through relevant and impactful scientific communications aligned with Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Recommend & implement strategies for scientific communications and lead team from assessment of clinical data to develop and deliver through communications through publications in peer-reviewed medical/cardiology journals and physician podium presentations, in collaboration with physician and internal stakeholders.
  • Recommend & Implement strategies for medical information and lead team to ensure development and provision of information to physicians upon request that supports appropriate product use and scientific exchange.
  • Recommend & implement strategies to ensure scientific development and review of product claims.
  • Recommend & implement strategies, to support educational objectives and lead team for effective implementation.
  • Develop and refine best practices by directing and implementing changes through director(s), manager(s) and/or experienced professionals.
  • Develop a robust talent development and succession plan in alignment with Medical Affairs growth strategy.
  • Recommend, communicate and direct strategies. Lead in identifying risk, developing mitigation strategies, alternative solutions, resolving issues, etc. in collaboration with cross functional and/or matrix teams.
  • Plan and direct strategic activities including prioritizing appropriate projects with overall responsibility for meeting business objectives.
  • Analyze, formulate and present recommendations to advise and guide leadership; develop and deliver senior leadership/executive level communication.
What you'll need (Required)
  • Master's Degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated track record in people management
What else we look for (Preferred)
  • Ph.D., PharmD, MD, or equivalent advanced scientific degree.
  • Medical Affairs leadership experience within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industry.
  • Deep knowledge of cardiovascular disease states and therapies.
  • Experience with scientific communications, publications, medical information, or evidence dissemination.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research, clinical evidence interpretation, and biostatistics.
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing teams.
  • Exceptional scientific writing, editing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional and senior stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project leadership, and problem-solving capabilities.

For California, the base pay range for this position is $209,000 - $296,000 (highly experienced).
