Job description

Job Description: TransMedics is transforming organ transplant therapy with the Organ Care System (OCS)—the first portable warm-perfusion platform that keeps donor organs functioning outside the body. It's technology built to give more patients a chance at a transplant, and more transplant teams the confidence to say yes to an organ they'd otherwise have to turn away. The Sr. Director of Manufacturing Engineering is a pivotal leadership role within TransMedics Supply Chain organization, leading Advanced Operations (New Product & Technology Introduction), Sustaining Engineering, Manufacturing (Process) Engineering, and Technical Field Service. Building on TransMedics strong foundation of engineering excellence, this leader will drive the step-change required to enable the company's next phase of growth—ensuring our engineering practices, systems, and infrastructure deliver world-class results, from product quality and reliability to manufacturing performance, efficiency, and scalability. This is a build role, not a maintain role. TransMedics growth trajectory demands a leader who can set multi-year transformation strategy and organizational design—while staying close enough to the floor to walk a line, dig into a process deviation, or unblock a launch when it matters. We're looking for someone equally comfortable owning a transformation roadmap and rolling up their sleeves alongside the team. This leader will also play a key role in building the team's reputation as a strong destination for engineering talent—attracting good people and giving them room to grow into bigger roles as the company scales.

  • Drive step-change transformation — advance engineering practices, systems, and infrastructure to enable the next phase of TransMedics growth.

  • Advance manufacturing innovation — implement transformational processes using best-in-class development, advanced technologies, automation, and robotic-assisted manufacturing.
  • Embed Design for Excellence (DfX) — make DfX, including Design for Manufacturability (DFM), a core enabler of product quality, cost efficiency, and scalability, with a strong focus on simplification and part-count reduction.
  • Develop and inspire talent — build and scale a high-performing engineering team while fostering growth, development, and a culture of excellence.
  • Stay hands‑on — be willing to get into the details on the floor—a process deviation, a line issue, a launch at risk—when the team needs it.
  • Position TransMedics as a talent destination — help establish the company as a premier destination for top engineering talent in the U.S.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally — partner with peers across R&D, Quality, and the broader Supply Chain organization to support TransMedics mission and strategic goals.
Strategic Focus Areas
  • Engineering Transformation — deliver step-change improvements in practices, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Product Quality & Reliability — ensure world-class outcomes across current and future products, including our hardware fleet.

TransMedics Group, Inc. (TMDX) is a commercial‑stage medical technology company transforming organ transplant therapy for end‑stage organ failure patients across multiple disease states. We developed the Organ Care System, or the OCS™, to replace a decades‑old standard of care that we believe is significantly limiting access to life‑saving transplant therapy for hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide. Our innovative OCS technology replicates many aspects of the organ’s natural living and functioning environment outside of the human body. As such, the OCS represents a paradigm shift that transforms organ preservation for transplantation from a static state to a dynamic environment that enables new capabilities— including organ optimization and assessment. In concert with our OCS technology platform and OCS Connect™ app, which enables TransMedics and transplant clinicians to efficiently track, coordinate & communicate resource logistics for donor organs procured and maintained on OCS™, TMDX launched its National OCS™ Program (NOP) in 2022: 16 regional hubs across the U.S. staffed by a dispersed workforce of experienced, on‑staff OCS Perfusion Specialists & Cardiothoracic and Abdominal Donor Procurement Surgeons. These resources are mobilized on-demand via our own dedicated ground & aviation transportation logistics network, to retrieve and deliver allocated donor organs from anywhere in the U.S. – aiding U.S. Transplant Centers in bidding farewell to the time & distance limitations of cold storage & expand the pool of viable donor organs for their transplant recipients.
