Qualifications

  • Education & Experience option: Bachelor's degree plus 12+ years in medical technology/healthcare OR 15+ years in healthcare-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Builds organizational capacity, mentors high-potential employees, and oversees talent recruitment, selection, and performance management.
  • Oversees multiple operational units, translating business strategies into actionable requirements and optimizing resource allocation, forecasting, and costs.
  • Establishes organizational competency frameworks for personnel and oversees training initiatives, ensuring ongoing compliance.
  • Oversees policies to ensure regulatory alignment, licensing, accreditation standards, and inspection checklists, and drives CAPA.
  • Serves as liaison between laboratory services and broader healthcare operations, coordinating local and national lab operations and vendor relationships.
  • Evaluates and standardizes lab workflows to enhance quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness; manages facilities issues and cross-functional projects.
  • Directs quality audits and proficiency testing across pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases.

Job Title: Senior Director, Laboratory Operations Management

Primary Location: Atlanta, Georgia (Regional Office - 9 Piedmont)

Worker Location: Onsite

Employment Status: Regular | Standard | Full-time (Non-Union)

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Shift & Hours: Day Shift | 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun

Salary Range: $183,700 - $237,710 / year (Base pay is determined based on labor market data, internal alignment, and candidate experience, education, certifications, and skills.)

Travel Required: Yes, 25% of the time

Job Summary

The Senior Director, Laboratory Operations Management ensures timely and accurate laboratory reporting across assigned sections while directing day-to-day clinical laboratory operations within a labor management partnership environment (overseeing both credentialed and non-credentialed personnel). This role maintains active competency in laboratory testing, performs bench work as appropriate, and establishes strategic frameworks to align operations with quality assurance, safety, compliance, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Talent Development: Builds organizational capacity, mentors high-potential employees, and oversees talent recruitment, selection, and performance management. Drives cross-functional collaboration, sets performance standards, and models continuous learning aligned with industry best practices.
  • Operational Strategy & Execution: Oversees multiple operational units, translating business strategies into actionable requirements. Manages work allocations, addresses performance gaps, removes operational obstacles, and optimizes resource allocation, forecasting, and costs. Serves as a trusted subject‑matter expert to executive leadership.
  • Training & Competency Standards: Establishes organizational competency frameworks for personnel. Champions technical and non‑technical training initiatives, oversees materials development, and ensures ongoing compliance with in‑service and regular training programs.
  • Compliance & Accreditation Management: Oversees policies and work instructions to ensure strict alignment with regulatory requirements, licensing, accreditation standards, and inspection checklists. Implements protocols for sample processing, testing, storage, and distribution while driving corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for regulatory deficiencies.
  • Interdepartmental & External Strategic Integration: Serves as the key liaison between laboratory services and broader healthcare operations. Coordinates local and national lab operations, quality management systems, and utilization. Manages strategic relationships with external vendors, public health entities, and healthcare providers.
  • Process Improvement & Facilities Management: Evaluates and standardizes lab workflows to enhance quality, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and cost‑effectiveness. Introduces innovative testing methodologies, manages inventory/supply utilization, resolves complex facility issues, and directs cross‑functional project management initiatives.
  • Service Quality Assurance: Formulates strategies to handle quality control deviations, specimen processing standards, and proficiency testing issues. Oversees internal and external quality audits to maintain high standards across pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical testing phases.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports within a healthcare-related field.
  • Education & Experience (either route):
    • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or a healthcare-related field AND minimum twelve (12) years of experience in medical technology, clinical laboratory sciences, or healthcare; OR
    • Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in medical technology, clinical laboratory sciences, or a healthcare-related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical Supervisor Certification from the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB).
  • Medical Technologist (MT) Certification.
