Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead multiple full-stack engineering teams focused on cloud-first, scalable banking solutions. You will partner with product managers, designers, architects and executives to align roadmaps with enterprise technology and customer-centric outcomes.

You will drive technical vision, platform health, and talent strategy, mentoring managers and engineers while delivering high-impact, compliant, and resilient systems across AWS

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
• At least 7 years of people management experience
• At least 9 years of software engineering and solution architecture experience
• At least 9 years of enterprise architecture and design patterns experience
• At least 9 years of cloud computing experience (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• At least 9 years of data architecture experience
• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (preferred)
• 12+ years of software engineering and solution architecture experience (preferred)
• 12+ years of enterprise architecture and design patterns (preferred)
• 12+ years of web technologies experience (JavaScript, TypeScript, SPA) (preferred)
• 12+ years of distributed HPC and ML systems experience (preferred)
• 12+ years of cloud computing experience (preferred)
• 12+ years of data architecture experience (preferred)
• 12+ years of languages including Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, Scala (preferred)
• 10+ years of database experience (preferred)
• 12+ years of full lifecycle SDLC experience (preferred)
• 10+ years with public cloud platforms (preferred)
• 12+ years of networking and integration with distributed systems (preferred)
• 7+ years mentoring senior engineers (preferred)
• 3+ years leading cross-domain architectural reviews (preferred)
• Expertise in agentic AI tooling applications (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product focused software engineers
• Shape long-term technical strategy and architecture standards for enterprise platforms
• Partner with senior engineering and business leaders to align product roadmaps with scalable technology capabilities
• Drive talent strategy, ensuring succession planning, skill development, and equitable opportunity across engineering teams
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios and develop market-driven application capabilities and customer experiences
• Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Lead the design, development, testing, implementation, and support across full-stack development tools and technologies
• Oversee craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions
• Stay current with technology trends, experiment with new technologies, and mentor others in the engineering community
• Encourage innovation, cutting-edge tech adoption, inclusion, teamwork and diversity
• Improve cross-team velocity and collaboration across the organization
• Lead efforts to deploy applications into AWS environments
