Merck & Co., Inc. seeks a Senior Director of Epidemiology to lead a team of epidemiologists in Respiratory Disease and Hospital Specialty Medicine. You will direct study design, data collection, and analyses, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
The role requires a PhD in Epidemiology (or MD with related training) and 8+ years in pharma/biotech epidemiology, with strong leadership and communication skills and travel up to 5-10%.
Job Description Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President in Vaccine/Infectious Disease (VID), Epidemiology, the Senior Director, Epidemiology has lead management and oversight responsibility for epidemiologic activities conducted by epidemiologists of their team on assigned products of our Company/indications and provides broad leadership and direction on scientific and operational aspects of epidemiologic research.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Education Minimum Requirement: Required: PhD in Epidemiology with 8 or more years of relevant work experience. Preferred: PhD in Epidemiology (or related field) or MD degree with additional research training in Epidemiology.
Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry People management experience Extensive experience in the successful direction of large epidemiologic projects; broad knowledge and experience in the application of epidemiologic approaches to problems in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industry; and record of research publications in peer‑reviewed journals Molecular epidemiology training/background Creative problem‑solving ability and excellent communication skills (oral and written) 5% Travel

The salary range for this role is $190,800.00 - $300,300.00 This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.
The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long‑term incentive, if applicable.
