Job summary

QuantumScape in California is seeking a Senior Director of EHSS to shape strategy and lead Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability programs across R&D and manufacturing.

You will build the EHSS roadmap, manage budgets, oversee hazardous materials and waste compliance, and drive a culture of safety on the factory floor and in labs, partnering with executive leadership and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health, or related field.
• Master's or PhD preferred for advanced roles.
• 20+ years of progressive EHSS experience with 10+ years in management.
• Domain expertise in battery, semiconductor, or advanced hardware manufacturing.
• Leadership and communication skills to translate risks for CEO and frontline staff.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute EHSS strategy and a multi-year roadmap.
• Lead Safety Program Architecture and Management across functions.
• Oversee Hazardous Materials and Hazardous Waste compliance per regs.
• Lead EHSS training, including AI-enabled hazard courses.
• Collaborate with executives and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
• Lead the Safety Council and incident investigations culture.
• Ensure DOT/IATA compliance for transport of batteries.
