What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. Amgen is seeking a Senior Director, Content and Audience Strategy to define and lead enterprise content and audience strategy across commercial and stakeholder engagement channels. This leader will translate complex business needs and transformation initiatives into scalable, personalized, and governance-compliant content solutions.

The Senior Director will build and lead a high-performing content and audience strategy function, bringing together content strategy, audience analytics, production, taxonomy, metadata, governance, and stakeholder management. The role will partner with business and portfolio leads, digital product managers, and transformation stakeholders to turn business use cases into audience-driven content strategies and coordinated, multi-channel roadmaps.

This leader will establish the standards, operating models, and governance frameworks needed to connect audience needs with content production capabilities, channel requirements, brand messaging, regulatory expectations, and measurable business outcomes. The role will also oversee content production strategy and external partner relationships, while guiding the integration and adoption of taxonomy, metadata, content management, and audience intelligence capabilities across the enterprise.

The Senior Director will represent content and audience strategy in executive forums and transformation governance, creating clear decision materials, surfacing dependencies and risks, and helping teams sustain momentum through complex, multi-year change.

Key Responsibilities

Content and Audience Strategy

  • Lead a high-performing content and audience strategy function with strong capabilities in content strategy, audience analytics, and stakeholder management.
  • Structure, hire, develop, and performance-manage the content and audience strategy team.
  • Partner with business leads, portfolio leads, digital product managers, and transformation stakeholders to translate business use cases into audience-driven content strategies and multi-channel content roadmaps.
  • Develop an integrated content architecture that connects audience needs, production and channel capabilities, brand messaging, regulatory requirements, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Assess content operational maturity, production complexity, technology readiness, governance requirements, and transformation dependencies for content-driven initiatives.
  • Set enterprise standards for audience segmentation, content strategy, and content governance.

Content Production Leadership and Oversight

  • Define production strategies and roadmaps aligned with content priorities and audience engagement plans.
  • Establish reusable content standards, governance frameworks, and quality assurance processes that support brand consistency, regulatory compliance, and efficient medical and legal review.
  • Partner with creative, marketing operations, medical, legal, compliance, privacy, brand, and digital teams to ensure content is brand-aligned, compliant, and production-ready.
  • Oversee channel-specific content production requirements and templates for HCP, patient, customer, and internal stakeholder audiences.
  • Manage relationships with external creative agencies, translation services, production vendors, and platform partners; establish service levels, quality standards, and cost benchmarks.

Taxonomy and Metadata Leadership and Oversight

  • Define the strategic direction for enterprise taxonomy frameworks that classify content, audiences, channels, and business domains in alignment with commercial strategy and transformation initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on metadata standards and governance requirements, and oversee their implementation and maintenance across content systems.
  • Guide the integration of taxonomy and metadata into content management systems, customer data platforms, and marketing automation tools, working with technology partners as needed.
  • Monitor taxonomy and metadata quality through regular reviews and reporting, identify improvement opportunities, and hold the team accountable for continuous improvement.
  • Lead and develop the taxonomy and metadata management team, ensuring it has the skills, tools, authority, and support to maintain enterprise standards and respond to evolving business needs.

Transformation Adoption and Governance

  • Drive enterprise adoption of content platforms, content management systems, taxonomy and metadata standards, and audience intelligence tools by communicating their value and setting clear expectations.
  • Own and maintain the portfolio transformation roadmap, including dependencies, milestones, risks, and budget tracking.
  • Represent content and audience strategy in governance forums with business leads, portfolio leads, digital product managers, and transformation stakeholders; surface decisions, elevate blockers, and document progress.
  • Manage cross-pillar interdependencies and help teams anticipate upcoming needs and risks.
  • Build and execute communication strategies that support enablement across groups, including role clarity, onboarding, and workflow integration.
  • Coordinate with key partners to support delivery accountability and value realization.
  • Track and report on planned milestones, and maintain the future-state strategic vision, milestones, workforce strategy inputs, and investment projections.

Executive Communication

  • Represent content strategy in executive forums, portfolio reviews, and transformation governance discussions.
  • Guide the transformation narrative to sustain organizational momentum and leadership confidence.
  • Create executive-ready decision materials that clearly communicate strategic options and business impact.
