MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Build & Inspire a High-Performing Team: Attract, mentor, and scale a world-class early clinical scientist organization across diverse therapeutic areas. Foster a culture of scientific rigor, innovation, and career development.

Define Enterprise Standards for Clinical Scientists: Establish and champion global standards, best practices, and frameworks for clinical scientists across all development phases, primarily focused on early phase, and all therapeutic areas. Elevate operational quality and ensure scientific consistency across clinical development.

Drive Cross-Portfolio Strategic Data Reviews and Support Publication Plans: For the early-stage clinical portfolio, partner closely with Clinical Program Leads (while mentoring the study level clinical scientist), to synthesize and interrogate emerging data in order to translate complex clinical findings into both robust publication plans and actionable development strategies that de-risk programs and accelerate key milestones.

People Leadership & Capability Building: Recruit, mentor, and line manage clinical scientists across therapeutic areas while defining functional competencies and career pathways. Foster an environment of scientific excellence and accountability to support scientists embedded within study teams.

Strategic Workforce Planning: Partner with Business Planning and Operations to forecast functional capacity and dynamically allocate clinical scientist resources. Ensure appropriate talent deployment to match current pipeline milestones and future portfolio growth.

Quality & Document Governance: Oversee study-level clinical scientists in authoring high-quality clinical and regulatory documents (e.g., protocols, IBs, CSRs), ensuring rigorous GCP compliance and tight alignment with trial objectives.

Compliance & Operational Frameworks: Establish and periodically revise company-wide clinical science standards, SOPs, and best practices in close partnership with Clinical Operations, Biometrics, Regulatory Affairs and Compliance. Cultivate an ongoing culture of inspection-readiness and adherence to global ICH-GCP regulations across all programs.

Data Synthesis & Pipeline Strategy: Direct program- and platform-level clinical data reviews in close partnership with Clinical Program Leads. Interrogate emerging safety, biomarker, and efficacy readouts to de-risk assets and drive evidence-based development decisions.

Publication & External Dissemination: In close collaboration with Clinical Program Leads and Clinical Study Leads, shape and steer comprehensive scientific publication strategies for early-phase clinical assets. When needed, lead or oversee the authoring of scientific congress abstracts/presentations as well as primary peer-reviewed manuscripts and represent Clinical Sciences in strategic investigator engagements.

Other Duties

Provide expert, collegial support and leadership to all members of the drug development team to ensure full success of the company’s portfolio objectives and regulatory milestones.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead process improvement initiatives. Establish best practices and ensure a consistent approach is used across studies and teams.

Proven track record of navigating complex clinical development pathways while maintaining unwavering commitment to patient safety governance.

People Leadership & Resourcing: Proven track record of recruiting, mentoring, and line managing clinical scientists across diverse therapeutic backgrounds and dispersed global geographies. Demonstrated capability in functional capacity modeling and strategic workforce planning to effectively balance resource allocation against pipeline demands.

Demonstrated track record of delivering high-impact peer-reviewed publications, congress presentations, and leading the authoring of core clinical documents (e.g., protocols, IBs, CSRs).

Regulatory Compliance & Clinical Governance: Deep expertise in global ICH-GCP principles, clinical development framework, and regulatory requirements, with demonstrated ability to embed inspection-ready practices study teams. Proven experience establishing and continuously improving departmental standards (e.g., SOPs, guidance documents, and work instructions) through cross-functional leadership.
